Husband To Two Wives Episode Two

“This is my husband’s house. This is my matrimonial bed. No one can take it from me. No one can take my place. But who is this woman sleeping in our matrimonial bed? She is relaxing as if she knows this bed very well. I’m sure this is not the first time she is sleeping in this bed. She has been visiting you in the past. She knows the bed very well and she is very familiar with this room. Who is she and why is she here on our wedding day?” Ife asked Femi when they returned home from the wedding reception venue. The time was around 8pm and all guests had departed. Family members had also gone back to their homes. Femi and Ife returned to the house to started living as husband and wife but Ife met Wunmi sleeping peacefully like a baby in Femi’s room.

“You should better start talking before I will do something. Today is my wedding but that does not mean I cannot take any action I want. I can remove this wedding gown and do it hand to hand with you. I don’t mind tearing my wedding gown if I see that another woman is already occupying my matrimonial bed even before I get the chance to taste my husband’s carrot. Who are you and why are you in my husband’s bed?” Ife asked again. She was angry and she was ready for any form of confrontation.

“Femi, who is this woman? I expect a response from you since she is behaving like someone who cannot talk. If she cannot talk, you should talk. Answer the question. Who is she? I’m sure you know her. Someone you don’t known cannot just come into your room and be sleeping in your bed. Femi, please, start talking before I do something I might regret,” Ife shouted. As she was shouting, Femi’s mother heard her voice and came downstairs to find out what was happening. Femi’s family is rich so they all live together in one big mansion. His father is late. When his father died, Femi inherited billions in business and assets. Since he is the only child, he decided to continue living with his mother to keep her company. That’s why they still live together.

“What is going on? Today is your wedding day and you two are already shouting at each other? What’s the issue? What happened? I expect the two of you to be inside your room enjoying your honeymoon but here you are shouting. Tell me what’s going on,” Femi’s mother said. She was yet to see Wunmi who was still lying in bed as if she was the one who built the house.

“Mama, ask your son. We came back here and the door was open. I was wondering why the door was open since no one was at home. But when I looked inside, I was shocked to see another woman sleeping in my husband’s bed. I have been asking the two of them to explain themselves but they are not talking. My husband is not talking and the strange woman in his bed is not talking. That is why I’m shouting. Thank God you are you. You can asked them to starting talking before my head will become popcorn,” Ife said emotionally. She was almost weeping but she controlled herself.

“Are you saying there is another woman in this house?” Femi’s mother asked.

“Yes mama. The woman is sleeping in my husband’s bed like baby. On my wedding day, another woman is occupying my matrimonial bed. That’s like an abomination,” Ife said.

“Femi, who is the woman in your room?” Femi’s mother asked.

“The woman in my room is my wife,” Femi tells his mother without mincing words.

“What do you mean? You have another wife? Your wife is right here beside you and you are saying there is another wife in your room. Can you explain yourself?” Femi’s mother asked with shock written all over her face.

“Yes, the woman in my room is named Wunmi and she is my first wife. I went to her village and married her properly last week. We did our traditional wedding last week. That means she is my first wife. She is the one I love and there is nothing anyone can do about it,” Femi responded firmly without fear. What he said made Ife to run mad.

“You mean this woman is your wife? If you have another wife, why did you marry me? Why did you take me to the altar? Did I tell you I want to be a second wife?” Ife asked with tears in her eyes. She could no longer control herself.

“You are not my wife. I married you because of my mother. It was my mother who said I should marry you. Therefore, I married you for my mother. You can go and be with my mother. She was the one who told me to marry you. I have gone to marry my own wife and she has moved in to live with me. You can move in and live with my mother,” Femi declared. His words were falling on Ife like painful slaps.

“What are you talking about Femi? Have you lost your mind? You can’t marry two wives in my house. In our church, what is permitted is one man one wife, not one man two wives,” Femi’s mother responded with anger. She was too angry.

“That is not true. I’m an African man. My tradition permits me to marry any number of wives I can take care of. I have married two wives. One for my mother and one for myself. You said you like Ife, I obediently married her for you so that peace would reign. I love Wunmi, I married her for myself. Please, everyone should relax. There is no cause for alarm,” Femi said.

All these while, Wunmi was still in Femi’s bed and she has not said anything. She was just listening to them and smiling in a mischievous way.

“I told you not to bring Wunmi into my house and you secretly went and married her,” Femi’s mother.

“I also told you I don’t like Ife but you forced me to marry her,” Femi responded.

“God please wake me up from this dream. Am I dreaming or what? This should better be a dream. I can’t believe this is happening,” Ife said with anger. She pulled off her wedding gown, removed her shoes and entered the room to meet Wunmi.

“The battle line is drawn,” Ife said when she entered the room.
