The Temptation Episode Five

“That is certainly my husband’s car. That means my husband came here. What did he come here to see? What is my husband’s car doing here? If my husband's car is here, that means he slept in this compound. You told me he left work and went home but I just saw his car going out of the gate. Doris, are you telling me lies? Upon all the money I paid you to help me tempt my husband and to monitor him, you are telling me lies? Why did you lie to me?” Afoma asked with a lot of anger in her voice. Her anger was boiling like hot water. Doris did not know what to say to defend herself, but she decided that she would not allow Afoma to ride over her as if she saw her husband in her room.

“Wait Madam Afoma. Why are you talking as if you saw your husband in my bed? You were just coming out from my room. Did you see your husband in my room? Thank God I allowed you to come into the room. If not, you would have said I hid your husband in my room. You would have said it was inside my room he slept yesterday. Your husband did not come here and he did not sleep in this compound. Please, don't come to my house to look for my trouble. I'm a very peaceful person and I have tried to show you respect since you came here looking for your husband. Please, go home and look for your husband. You can call him on phone. And let me warn you, don't ever come to my house looking for him again. I'm just his secretary, not his security.” Doris said. Afoma was surprised at how Doris spoke to her.

“Is it me you are talking to or you were talking to another person? I said I saw my husband's car leaving your compound and you are insulting me? This Lagos will not contain me and you if I discover that my husband slept in your room.” Afoma said. She was shouting.

“Madam Afoma stop shouting. And stop accusing me wrongly. I did not sleep with your husband. Please, leave my house. If you don't leave, then be prepared for my anger.” Doris responded.

“If you said you did not sleep with my husband and he did not come to this compound, who is the owner of that car that just left this place? I'm very sure the car belongs to my husband.” Afoma asked.

“That's not your husband's car. That car belongs to my landlord.” Doris said. It was a lie.

“How come your landlord uses the same car as my husband? That's unbelievable coincidence. Well, I'm sorry. I didn't know your landlord has the same car as my husband. I'm sorry for accusing you wrongly. But please, I need you to keep an eye on my husband.

I don't understand the moves he is making these days.” Afoma said. She entered her car and left Doris’ apartment.

Meanwhile, Ndu was busy planning the lies he would tell his wife. As he was driving him, he decided to branch off into a hospital. There is a hospital he uses in Lagos and he has a doctor there. He entered the hospital and told the doctor what to do.

“I want you to take my phone and call my wife. Tell her I have been admitted here since yesterday. I did not sleep at home last night and I'm sure by now, she is looking for me all over the town. Please doctor, tell her that I'm sick with malaria and I was admitted.” Ndu said. He and the doctor were friends because he has been treating him for a long time. The doctor quickly understood that Ndu was cheating on his wife.

“You have slept with another woman right? You want me to cover your evil actions against your wife? How much are you going to pay for this cover-up I'm about to do for you?” The doctor asked.

“I will pay any amount you want. I just want you cover me up. Tell her I was hospitalised. Please, do it for me. Time is running out. She has already gone to the place I slept to look for me. I saw her. Make it look as if I have been in the hospital since yesterday.” Ndu said.

“You will pay me N100k.” The doctor said.

“That is small money. Make the call.” Ndu responded. The doctor picked up Ndu's phone and called his wife.

“Hello Madam Afoma, your husband is in the hospital. He has been here since yesterday and he is very sick. He has malaria and we just have to hospitalise him yesterday. Come to the hospital and look after him.” The doctor said. He sounded very convincing.

“Oh God! I didn't know. I have been looking for him since yesterday night. I'm on my way.” She said. Soon, she drove to the hospital. She was surprised to see her husband in a hospital bed. Ndu was pretending. He was shaking as if he was dying.

“I'm so sorry my husband. I had no idea you were sick. Why didn't you call me? I called you throughout yesterday and you did not take your calls. Please, always inform me whenever you are sick.” Afoma said.

“Thank you for coming my dear wife. I thought it was a simple headache. That was why I didn't call you. You know I love you so much and I didn't want you to worry about me. I wanted to handle it alone. It was even the doctor that forced me to call you.” Ndu tells his wife.

Meanwhile, Doris was not yet done with Ndu. She has tasted the good life given to her by Ndu and she did not want to leave him.

“Afoma nearly caught me today, but I'm not leaving her husband. My intention is to take him from Afoma. I have a plan and I will implement it.” Doris said. She picked up her phone and typed a message for Ndu.

“Hi my love. I hope you later told your wife a good lie? Well, I trust you and I know what you can do. There was a question I wanted to ask you before your wife came. I wanted to ask why you people don't have children. Is it that you don’t want children? You have been married to your wife for five years now and she has not been able to give you one child. If you are interested, I can get pregnant for you and give you a child.” Doris said in the WhatsApp message.

“I want a child and I will love to get you pregnant. It seems my wife is barren.” Ndu responded.
