The Temptation Episode Four

"I'm surprised that you said your husband did not come home. He left the office before me yesterday and he told me he was going straight home. He even said he was sick. He left work around 2pm. He said he wanted to go home and rest. That was the last time I saw him yesterday. I'm shocked to hear that he did not come home." Doris said to Afoma. Afoma was now crying like a baby.

"He did not come home. I wonder where he went. Maybe he went to sleep with another woman. I'm worried about my marriage. I don't want my marriage to scatter." Afoma said.

Meanwhile, Ndu was still in Doris' room. He was listening to the conversation. He was shocked that his wife cane to see Doris and to look for him. He was scared of what might happen if his wife happens to catch him in Doris' apartment. He started thinking of how to escape.

"I wonder why she came here. I don't want her to see me. How am I going to escape? This is a very big problem. This apartment is just one room. There's no place for me to hide. Once my wife comes in here, she will see me. What will I do now?" Ndu asked himself in frustration. He looked around the apartment and saw a window. He quickly thought of escaping through the window.

"This is the only way to leave this place through the back window. I will jump out through the window." Ndu said. He quickly picked up his clothes from the bed, dressed up and then gently pushed the wooden door of the window.

"This window is so tiny. I just hope my body will enter through it. But I have no option but to try." Ndu said. First, he put his head into the window, then his shoulders. Once his shoulders went through, he was able to come out. He found himself at the back of Doris' apartment. There's a tiny road that lead from the back of the house to the streets.

"Let me follow this road. Now, I'm free from my wife's problem. Thank God she didn't catch me in Doris' house. The problem now is that I parked my car inside Doris' compound. I hope my wife will not see the car and recognize it. But I'm not going back there for now. I will look for a place to relax until the coast is clear." Ndu said. He entered a restaurant by the roadside and waited patiently, thinking of what next he would do to cover his tracks. He picked up his phone and called Doris.

"Let me see if she can pick her call. If she picks, I will tell her that I have left so that she can let my wife into her apartment. That way, my wife will not suspect anything." Ndu said.

Meanwhile, back in Doris' apartment, she heard her phone ringing when she was still standing outside and talking with Afoma. Doris had no idea that Ndu had left the house through the window. She thought he was still there. She was relieved when her phone rang inside and she told Afoma she wanted to pick up her phone.

"Please, someone is calling me. Let me pick up my phone and speak with the person. I will be back shortly." Doris said as she enters inside her apartment. When she entered, she did not see Ndu.

"But I left him here. He was inside the room when I was going to talk to his wife. Where is he? Did he disappear?" Doris asked herself in confusion. She looked at her phone screen and saw that Ndu was the one calling her. She quickly picked up the phone.

"Hello, Doris, I have escaped. I heard what you were discussing with my wife and I had to find my way out of your house so that she will not catch me there. I escaped through the window. You can now ask her to come in so that will sneak into the compound and carry my car. My car is in the compound. If my wishes the car, she will know that I was in your house. Ask her to come in, then let me know so that I can quickly come to pick my car." Ndu said.

"Alright! I didn't even know you have left. I was wondering how to discharge your wife, but thank God you are no longer here." Doris said over the phone. Doris spoke in a very low tune, making sure that Afoma would not hear what she was discussing with Ndu. After she ended the call, she went outside and outside and invited Afoma into her apartment.

"Come in, let's sit down and talk." Doris said. Afoma was happy.

"Thank you so much." Afoma said. After Afoma stepped into the room, Doris typed a message and sent to Ndu.

'Your wife is in my room now. You can come and pick your car." She said in the message.

Afoma started talking with Doris.

"Why do you think my husband slept outside? Is it that he no longer loves me? I'm worried." Afoma said.

"Madam Afoma, this is Lagos and you should be worried more about your husband's safety instead of constantly suspecting that he is cheating on you. What if something happened to him when he was coming home yesterday?

Besides, I told you he left the office early because he was not feeling fine. Yet, you are more concerned about him sleeping with another woman. Please, you should go home and rest. I'm sure your husband will be back soon." Doris said.

"Alright! Let me go home. At least, I'm more relaxed now that I have spoken to someone. I will be back in the evening. You and I have become friends." Afoma said. She stood up and started leaving.

Meanwhile, Ndu has sneaked into the compound and entered his car. He started it and started driving out. That was when Afoma saw his car. The time Afoma stepped out of Doris' apartment was exactly when Ndu was driving out of the gate.

"Is that not my husband's car? Doris, you said my husband did not come here but I can see his car driving out of the gate." Afoma asked.
