Unexpected Wealth Episode 8

Kemi called Titi very early in the morning. She didn't even bother greeting her. "You must follow your husband to that hospital today," she said. "If this test comes out positive again, our plan will fail." Titi was quiet. "You will go there and make sure the test result says that Temi is not Chief's son," Kemi continued. "Act like a caring wife who just wants to support her husband. Once you get to the hospital, identify the person in charge of the DNA test. Bribe him well and make sure he changes that result. Do you understand?"

Titi understood everything clearly. She told her husband that she wanted to go with him to the hospital. "You've been going through a lot because of this matter," she said calmly. "Let me follow you and give you support." Chief looked at her and nodded. He didn't suspect anything. He just wanted to confirm the truth once and for all. They left the house together and headed for the hospital. Titi was quiet all through the ride. She was thinking about how to find the right technician and offer him the bribe before it became too late.

When they got to the hospital, Chief went to sit down in the waiting area while Titi walked around the laboratory section. She asked one of the nurses to show her the DNA department. The nurse pointed the direction. Titi walked in and met a young man arranging some papers. "Excuse me, please," she said softly. "Are you the one handling Chief Eze's DNA test today?" The young man looked up and nodded. "Yes ma," he said. "The samples will be taken shortly." Titi smiled. She pulled out a black nylon from her handbag and handed it to him quietly.

The lab technician opened the nylon slightly and saw bundles of money. His eyes went straight to the cash. "That is two million naira," Titi whispered. "All I want is for the result to come out negative. The man should believe the boy is not his son. Don't disappoint me." The technician didn't say much. He nodded and quickly hid the money under the table.

"Consider it done," he said. Titi smiled and walked out. Everything was going according to plan. She returned to the waiting room and sat beside her husband. "Everything will be fine," she said quietly to him.

Soon, Victoria and Temi arrived at the hospital. The nurse took all of them to a private room. Blood samples were taken from Chief Eze and Temi. The technician who collected the blood acted professionally. Nobody suspected anything.

Victoria sat beside Chief and whispered, "Thank you for giving us this chance to prove ourselves." Chief didn't reply. He just stared ahead. He didn't know who to believe anymore. After the samples were collected, they all waited in a quiet room while the result was being processed. Titi excused herself and went to check on the technician again.

Inside the lab, the technician had already printed the fake result. He folded it carefully and sealed it inside an envelope. Titi stood by the door, waiting. "Is it ready?" she asked. The man nodded. "Yes ma. It's ready. It says the boy is not Chief's biological son." Titi collected the envelope and gave it to the doctor in charge of the case. She returned to the waiting room smiling. Everything had gone well. The doctor walked in after some minutes and handed the result to Chief Eze. He opened the envelope slowly and began to read it quietly.

Chief read the result twice. He didn't say anything at first. He just stood up and faced Victoria. "So, you brought another man's son to my house and lied to me?" he asked. Victoria was confused. "What are you saying, sir?" she asked. "Let me see the result." Chief handed it to her. She read it and shook her head. "This is not possible," she said. "This is not true. This test must be wrong. Temi is your son." Chief didn't want to hear anything again. "I don't want to see either of you again," he shouted. "Leave my presence now!"

Victoria started begging, but Chief didn't listen. "Go and look for the boy's real father," he said. "You think you can play me and enjoy my wealth? Never again. Leave now!" Temi didn't understand what was going on. "Mummy, what's happening?" he asked. "How can the result be negative?" Victoria pulled his hand and left the hospital quietly. There was nothing else to say. She knew something was not right. That test result could not be true. But she didn't know how to prove it. Temi followed her with tears in his eyes. Everything they had was gone once again.

Outside the hospital, Titi hugged her husband. "At least you now know the truth," she said.

"They were using you. Imagine the shame if you continued thinking that boy was your son." Chief shook his head. "I feel used," he said. "I feel like a fool." Titi rubbed his shoulder gently. "You are not a fool," she said. "You are a good man. That's why people try to take advantage of you. But thank God you found out before it was too late." Chief nodded. "We will go home now. I need to rest. I'm tired of everything."

Later that night, Titi called Kemi. "It's done," she said happily. "The result came out negative. Chief has chased them away." Kemi laughed loudly. "I told you. Just follow my instructions. Soon, everything in that house will belong to you. No more Victoria, no more Temi." Titi smiled and sat on her bed. "God bless you, Kemi. I owe you." Kemi said.
