Unexpected Wealth Episode 7

Chief Eze sat on his favourite couch and looked round the living room. Nothing made sense to him anymore. He kept thinking about the note that was found in Temi's bag. He wanted to believe Temi and Victoria, but something was pulling him in a different direction. He stood up and asked one of his workers to call Victoria. He didn't want to wait anymore. He needed answers. He had given out his money, house and cars. If Temi was not his son, then he had made a very big mistake. He sat down quietly and waited for her to arrive.

Victoria came in and greeted him with respect. She was surprised when she saw Chief's serious face. "Sit down, Victoria," Chief said without looking up.

She sat. "I want to ask you something very important," he continued. "Did you bribe anybody at the hospital to lie about Temi being my son?"

Victoria's eyes opened wide. She looked confused. "Sir, I can never do such a thing," she said. "Why are you asking me that kind of question?" Chief stood up and brought out the note. He handed it to her.

Victoria read the note and shook her head slowly. "I don't even write English like this," she said. "This is not my handwriting. I did not write this note and I don't know who did." Chief stood and walked round the sitting room. He didn't want to believe her, but her voice sounded real.

"So, you are telling me that you didn't write this note and you didn't bribe anybody?" Chief asked again.

"I swear on everything I hold dear, sir," Victoria replied. "I don't know where that note came from."

Chief Eze looked at her for a while, then turned and faced Temi who had just walked in. "Temi, "he called. "Did you write this note for your mother?"

Temi collected the note and read it slowly. "No, sir," he said. "I don't know anything about this. Why would I write something like this? For what?" Chief stared at him without saying a word. He turned around and walked to the window. After a while, he faced them again.

"Whether you people are lying or telling the truth, only God knows," he said. "But I am taking some actions immediately."

Victoria stood up quickly. "Sir, what do you mean?" she asked. "I don't understand."

Chief walked to his table and opened a drawer. He brought out some papers. "This house I gave you, I am collecting it back," he said. "The two cars I bought for you, return them to the house. The driver I gave you has been reassigned. And I have frozen your account. You can no longer access that N50 million."

Victoria opened her mouth but words refused to come out. She sat down quietly. "This is too much," she finally said. "What did I do wrong?"

Temi stood by his mother. "Sir, this is not fair," he said. "We did not write that note. Somebody is trying to cause confusion in this house." Chief didn't reply. He walked to the other end of the room.

"I will not let myself be fooled by anybody," he said. "I trusted you people and now this. The only thing that can save you now is another DNA test. We are going to do it again, in another hospital. If it comes out positive, I will apologise and return everything. But if it comes out negative, you are done."

Victoria looked at him and nodded slowly. "I agree, sir," she said. "Let us do another test. Let the truth come out once and for all. I don't want your money, I just want you to know that Temi is truly your son. I raised him alone for many years without help from anybody. I cannot now come and lie at this stage of my life." Temi sat beside her.

"Let's do the DNA test again, sir. I want to clear my name. This note is fake. Somebody is behind this." She said.

Chief did not say anything again.

That evening, Chief Eze called the hospital and asked for the name of another reliable DNA lab in Lagos. He told them he wanted a private and fast test. The hospital recommended one. Chief wrote down the details and said he would visit the next day. He didn't want to waste time. That night, he sat outside and thought about everything. His joy since Temi came into his life was real. The boy was smart, respectful and focused. He had even started reviving the dying company. Could all that be a lie? He didn't know what to believe anymore.

Meanwhile, Titi was inside the house watching everything. She had overheard some of the conversation. She picked her phone and called Kemi immediately. "He has fallen for it," she said over the phone. "He believed the note. He took back everything from Victoria." Kemi laughed on the other end. "Good. This is just the beginning. Once that boy is out of this house, we will start our next move. Just keep acting innocent. Don't let your husband suspect anything." Titi smiled quietly and ended the call. Things were moving just as they planned. Victoria and Temi were about to suffer.

Victoria packed her things from the house and left with Temi. She didn't argue or fight. She left quietly and went to stay with a friend. Temi kept asking her questions. "Mama, why is this happening to us?" he said. "Why are people so wicked?" Victoria didn't have answers. She just told him to stay calm. "If God gave us this opportunity, He will not leave us now. The truth will still come out." Temi sat silently. He didn't

know what else to say. Everything they had worked for was gone in one day. But they were ready for the test.

The next day, Chief Eze prepared for the hospital. He had fixed an appointment and everything was set. He called Temi and Victoria and told them to meet him at the new hospital. The second DNA test would take place there. All they could do now was wait. Whether things would return to normal or not, nobody could tell.

But one thing was sure-this new result would change everything.
