The Dying Billionaire Episode 6
Chief Omenka sat up in his hospital bed, his voice weak but determined. "Inspector, I don't care how much it will cost. Find her. That woman is carrying my child. I want her found alive." The police inspector nodded. "We will do our best, sir. We've sent out her photo to all stations.
Roadblocks are up in all major areas around town." The Chief's lawyer also stepped in. "Chief, don't worry. I'll release some funds now to support the search." The Chief nodded. "Do it. Even if they ask for ransom, I'll pay. Just make sure Pamela comes back alive."
Outside, the police carried out their search. They checked every bus, searched buildings, and asked questions everywhere. But Pamela was nowhere to be found. Her phone had been switched off. Nobody knew her last location. Even her family didn't have any idea where she was. "It's like she disappeared into thin air," one of the officers said. The police increased their effort and extended the search to nearby villages. The Chief's lawyer also contacted a private security firm. They joined the search with their tracking gadgets, but Pamela remained missing.
Inside the dark, dirty room where she was kept, Pamela lay on the floor, weak and tired. Her clothes were torn, and her stomach was empty. Dike opened the door, came in, and looked at her. "You're suffering now, but it's for a reason," he said coldly. "You want to carry my father's child and collect his wealth? You want to take what belongs to me. Never." Pamela was too weak to reply. Ebube entered behind him and added, "Let her suffer. No food, no water. If she loses that pregnancy, good. That baby is a threat to us." Dike nodded in agreement and locked the door.
Back at the hospital, the Chief kept asking questions. "Has anyone heard anything? Has there been any call?" His voice was getting weaker, but he didn't stop. "Sir," the lawyer said gently, "we've heard nothing yet. But the police are working. Please rest. You need to save your energy."
"Rest?" Chief replied, looking at him. "How can I rest when the only woman carrying my child is missing? If anything happens to her, I have nothing left." The lawyer looked down. He had never seen Chief this worried before. He silently feared what might happen if Pamela wasn't found.
That night, the hospital was quiet. Only a few nurses were on duty. Nobody noticed when a new nurse entered the building. She had covered her face with a surgical mask and wore the hospital uniform. The security man at the entrance didn't ask questions because she looked like every other staff. Inside the hospital, she moved straight to Chief's room.
One of the nurses on duty tried to stop her. "Excuse me, who are you replacing? wasn't told of any shift change." "I was called in by Matron Grace," the fake nurse said calmly. The other nurse stepped aside.
The fake nurse entered the private ward. Chief Omenka was asleep. The machines around him were beeping slowly. He had refused to take his sleeping pills earlier, but his body was weak. The woman moved closer to his bed and looked around. It was Ebube. Her plan was simple-end it all tonight. She closed the door behind her quietly. Then she picked up the pillow from the chair nearby. She stood there for a few seconds and looked at her husband. "You destroyed everything," she whispered. "You refused to forgive me. You wanted to leave everything for that girl."
She moved quickly and placed the pillow over his face. The Chief struggled for a moment, but he was too weak. His hands tried to push her away, but he had no strength. She pressed harder until he stopped moving. The machines made a loud sound, but she unplugged the wires fast. She stood still for a few seconds, then slowly opened the door and walked out. The nurse who had questioned her earlier saw her and asked, "Is everything okay?" Ebube nodded and said, "Yes, he's sleeping. Don't disturb him." Then she left the hospital through the back gate.
Minutes later, the real nurse came in to check on the Chief. She noticed something strange. "Sir?" she called out. There was no response. She moved closer and touched his hand. It was cold. She screamed and called for help. Doctors rushed in immediately. They tried everything, but it was too late. The lawyer arrived soon after and asked, "What happened?" The nurse replied, "He was fine some minutes ago. I don't understand what went wrong." The doctor turned to them and said, "I'm sorry. Chief Omenka is dead." The news spread fast. The hospital management called the police.
Outside the hospital, Ebube entered her car and removed the mask. She looked at herself in the mirror. "Now everything is finished," she said quietly. "No more Chief, no more Pamela, no more threats." Her phone rang. It was Dike. "Is it done?" he asked. She replied, "Yes. It's done. Make sure that girl doesn't survive. If she escapes, we are finished." Dike promised to handle things. Ebube drove off quietly, not knowing that the hospital's CCTV had captured her movements. A young security man had already reported the suspicious nurse he saw that night. The police began their investigation.
Back in the kidnappers' den, Pamela was almost unconscious. Her lips were dry. Her stomach was cramping. She tried to sit up but couldn't. Suddenly, she heard voices outside. "They are coming again," she whispered to herself. "Maybe today is the day they will kill me." The door opened, and Dike walked in with a bottle of water. "You still alive?" he asked. She nodded slowly. He threw the bottle on the floor. "Drink if you can. But don't think anyone is coming to save you." Then he turned and left. Pamela looked at the bottle. With her last strength, she crawled to it.
