Ebube sat quietly in her bedroom, thinking of what to do next. She knew another DNA test was coming, and that test could expose her. The first one had been manipulated, but this second one might be out of her control. She didn't know the new hospital her husband would use, and she had no idea who the technician was. But one thing was clear-she must stop the truth from coming out. She had made a mistake many years ago, and she was ready to do anything to hide it. Her whole life now depended on that secret.

She called a nurse who normally took care of Chief Omenka at the hospital. The nurse was young, smart, and always looking for extra money. Ebube invited her to a hotel room and explained what she wanted. She needed to get her husband's phone, even if it was just for a few minutes. She believed the phone would show her which hospital he was planning to use. She promised to pay the nurse N200k. The nurse was scared at first, but when she heard the amount, she agreed to help.

The next evening, the nurse entered Chief's hospital room as usual. She gave him his evening drugs, cleaned his face, and helped him change into a fresh gown. When the Chief dozed off, she quietly reached for his phone. It was under the pillow, charging. She took it slowly and hid it inside her dress. She stayed a few more minutes to make sure nobody noticed her. Then she left the room and walked quickly out of the hospital. It was risky, but she was able to escape without trouble.

That night, Ebube waited patiently in her car until the nurse brought the phone to her. The moment she got it, she unlocked it with the Chief's fingerprint. She went straight to his messages and scrolled through everything. She saw a long chat with a technician from a new hospital. The hospital was located in another part of town. She read their plan for the DNA test. Her husband had already fixed an appointment for the next morning. Ebube quickly copied the technician's number and saved it on her own phone.

"This is perfect. This is exactly what I was looking for." Ebube said.

She returned the phone to the nurse and reminded her to take it back into the ward before morning. The nurse nodded and left immediately. Ebube didn't waste time. She called the technician that night and told him she was the Chief's wife. She begged him to help her. She explained everything and told him the first test had shown that her husband was not Dike's father, and she couldn't allow the same result again. She said it would destroy her completely. She begged the man to change the result to say that the Chief was Dike's real father.

The technician listened quietly. When Ebube finished, he asked her how much she was willing to pay. She said she could offer three N3 million. The man laughed and told her that amount was too small for what she was asking. He reminded her that it was a big risk. He could lose his job or even be arrested if the truth ever came out. He told her that the only way he would do it was if she paid him N5 million. Ebube was quiet for a moment, then said she would pay. Nothing was too much.

"Don't worry about the money. Money is not the problem. Just make sure you do the job well." Ebube said.

Very early the next morning, the nurse quietly returned the phone to the Chief's hospital room. She placed it under his pillow the same way she found it. The Chief never noticed it had been taken. Around 9 am, the Chief, Ebube, and Dike were taken to the new hospital for the DNA test. The same technician Ebube had spoken to was the one in charge. He took samples from both Chief and Dike and asked them to return in a few hours for the result. Everything went smoothly. Nobody knew what had happened behind the scenes.

While they waited, the Chief talked with his lawyer who had arrived at the hospital. He said he would not update his will again until the new test result was confirmed. Ebube sat quietly by the window, pretending to be calm, but her mind was full of thoughts. Dike kept asking questions, but she only gave short answers. The Chief trusted the hospital, so he didn't suspect anything. After some time, the technician came back into the room holding a brown envelope. He handed it over to the Chief and stood there, waiting. The Chief opened it and read the result.

Chief Omenka smiled slightly and looked at his son. "It is confirmed. You are my son," he said. Dike smiled and nodded. He looked at his mother, but she avoided his eyes. The lawyer asked for the result and made a copy. Everything seemed to be fine. The room was quiet for a few minutes. Everyone thought the matter had been settled. But then, Chief Omenka raised his hand and said something that shocked Ebube. "I want us to repeat this same test in another lab, far away from here. I just want to be very sure," he said.

Ebube's body became cold. She turned quickly and looked at her husband. "But we've done the test twice now," she said. "Why do you still want another one?" Chief Omenka did not answer her. He turned to his lawyer and told him to begin arrangements for a fresh test in a hospital outside the city. Dike looked confused.

Ebube knew she was running out of options. This new hospital would not be under her control. She sat quietly, not knowing what to say. She needed a new plan. Her secret was no longer safe. Another storm was coming.
