Searching For a Male Child Episode Eleven

Eberechi and her children woke up in the supermarket that morning feeling very happy. The children were already familiar with the supermarket, so there was nothing to worry about. Eberechi was happy that the children were happy. The kids played around joyfully. Eberechi has a camp gas in the supermarket and that was what she used to prepare breakfast for her children. Already, she has pots and other utensils at the supermarket. She just fried eggs and yam for the children and they liked it. When she was done caring for them, she went out into the streets to search for an apartment.

"I don't want my children to sleep in the supermarket again this night. Although, I know they like staying here, but mosquitoes disturbed us a lot last night. There are a lot of mosquitoes in this area. I have to find a proper house for us so that my children will not fall sick with malaria. I will look for a cheap apartment. I don't want something too expensive. I still have a lot to do with money. I still have school fees to pay and I have eight mouths to feed." Eberechi said as she stepped into the streets.

"I will be entering house by house to ask landlords if there is an apartment for rent in their houses. I don't want to use house agents. House agents are very wicked. If I call any house agent now, they will start asking me for so much money and they will not even show me a good apartment. I will just bear the burden and do the walking around myself. It is the best option. After all, I'm not doing anything today. I have come out to look for an apartment and I must find it." Eberechi said.

She has entered up to five compounds but she was told there are no apartments there. She vowed not to give up. She continued knocking at people's gates and she continued asking. She knows that getting an apartment without the help of a house agent is usually very hard, but she was ready to endure the pain.

"This sun is so hot! It's hitting hard on my head. I wonder if I will get the apartment today. I just want something simple for me and my children. I want a one-bedroom flat. I don't want anything bigger than that. But it's like vacant apartments are scarce in the estate. Eberechi said in her heart. She entered one restaurant to eat and rest a little. She ate pounded yam and egusi soup. When she had finished resting, she started her journey again.

The next apartment she entered has two bedrooms flat. She saw the landlord who showed her around. The apartment was perfect. It had electricity, two toilets and a large living room. She liked the place but her problem was the price. The landlord has demanded for N800,000,

"My budget is N600,000 sir. Please, help me and give me the apartment. I really need it. I'm a single mother. Myself and my children are currently stranded. We will even move into the apartment today if you agree to take N600,000 from me. Please help me." Eberechi pleaded but the landlord did not listen to her.

"No Madam! N600,000 is too small for two bedrooms. Also, it is not only the N800,000 that you will pay. You will give me N100,000 for drinks and kola, you will pay N150,000 as a caution fee, and you pay N50,000 as service charge. Total package is N1.1 million. It's very cheap. If you go through house agents, you will pay more than that, but I'm just helping you."

The landlord said.

"Ah! Oga landlord! It's not cheap o! This one is more than what I can afford. Please, pity me." Eberechi pleaded.

"If you can't afford it, leave it. The person who can afford it will come and rent it. You are even lucky to see the house. Apartments are very scarce in the estate. To see this kind of good apartment here is rare. I will not force you to take it. By the time you go and come back, you will be surprised that someone would have occupied it." The landlord said. Eberechi left the compound disappointed. She does not have enough money to pay for such an expensive apartment.

"Let me look for another one. The cost of this one is too high. If I pay for it, it might affect my business negatively. I don't want that to happen." Eberechi says as she leaves the house. When she came out into the streets, the sun was already setting. She decided to visit Alozie's house. She wants to go and tell him that her husband had chased her out. Alozie was just returning from his office when Eberechi entered the house.

"How are you and your children? How is business going? I hope you are making progress?" Alozie asked.

"Of course, I'm making progress sir. I want to tell you that my husband chased me away. When I got home yesterday night, he asked me to leave the house with my children. He packed my bags and threw them outside. I left and passed the night in the supermarket with my children. We slept well but mosquitoes nearly finished us. That is why I came out today to look for an apartment to rent. I saw one down there, but they said it's N1.1 million. It's bigger than me. I

cannot afford it." Eberechi lamented.

"I'm so sorry that your husband pushed you out. Did you people fight?" Alozie asked.

"No! But he gave me a notice of divorce. He said he doesn't want me anymore." She responded.

"Ah! That means he also wants divorce just like you. Did you tell him anything about divorce?" Alozie asked.

"No! He made his own decision. I didn't say anything. I just took my children and left." Eberechi said.

"Well, I'm glad to hear that you and your children are fine. I will give you money to pay for the apartment." Alozie said.

"What?" Eberechi asked.

"I said you will go back and pay for the apartment you saw. You people should move in this evening. I will give you the money." He said.

He brought out his phone and transferred N1.1 million to Eberechi. She rolled on the ground to thank Alozie.

"You are my destiny helper." Eberechi said. Immediately she saw the money in her account, she rushed to the house she saw. She sent the money to the landlord and collected the keys to the apartment.

That same evening, she went out and bought a few things they needed. She bought mattresses and kitchen items and moved into the house with her children.

"I'm so happy tonight. I and my children now have our own space." Eberechi said to herself. She watched her children play around the living room. She joined them. She was happy.
