Searching For a Male Child Episode Six

Okenwa stayed at the hospital for many days. He was so scared that something had terribly gone wrong with what makes him a man. The part of his body which he cherishes the most was not shaking again and he was deeply worried. The doctors carried out several tests to determine the state of his supreme headquarters which Eberechi used her leg to scatter. After the tests, the doctors said one of the eggs in Okenwa's headquarters was broken. They also said the other one badly damaged, but there was hope of a revival.

"It is as if a heavy object crushed one of your eggs. Also, the second one is seriously affected. You have refused to tell us exactly what happened, but you are in the danger of losing your supreme headquarters due what happened. You will spend two more weeks in the hospital. We have successfully removed the broken egg. It is remaining one. We are treating you to ensure that you get better in a few days." The doctors tell Okenwa. He has refused to speak the truth about what happened. He was too ashamed to tell the doctors that his wife kicked him like a horse.

"Are you saying I might not be able to enjoy honey again? Are you saying I have lost my power as a man? Does it mean I have lost the eggs entirely? Are you sure one egg will work? Please, show me the egg you removed from my headquarter. I want to take it home. I will to keep it in the fridge, maybe it will work again under cool temperature." Okenwa said. The doctors almost laughed at him. In fact, one of them hid his mouth and secretly laughed.

"Why do you want to take the broken egg home? Do you want to go and fry it? We just told you that everything will be fine. You just need a few more days of treatment and we will allow you to go home. Don't worry, you might still be able to use the headquarters to work." One of the doctors said to Okenwa. The doctors gave Okenwa some treatment before leaving the hospital ward.

When they left, he started weeping. Tears were pouring from his eyes like tap water. He was worried that he was now a woman wrapper.

"So, I will become woman wrapper? My wife will use me to play football. My wife will use me to clean floor like rag. She will use me to sweep toilet like broom. I hope these doctors are not telling me the truth about my supreme headquarters. I hope what they are doing to me is April fool. I hope to wake up from this dream because it is becoming a nightmare. If I had known that this thing would happen, I would have stayed in my bedroom that night. I wouldn't have asked her to open her water pot for me. I would have tied my trouser and slept without asking her for honey. Eberechi is such a wicked woman. She has started showing me her true colour." Okenwa said.

Throughout the period he stayed at the hospital, he was not himself. He was so worried. Even food felt tasteless in his mouth. Many of his friends visited him at the hospital but he still refused to tell them the truth of what happened. He told them that he was suffering from typhoid and malaria.

"But you have stayed too long in the hospital. Are you sure it is malaria?" One of his rich friends asked.

"Yes! The doctors said the malaria is high. They said the typhoid fever is 3+. According to them, I must stay in the hospital for long to follow the treatment strictly. They said they will discharge me next week. I will finally go home." Okenwa said to his friend.

A week later, Okenwa was discharged from the hospital. He was still feeling little pains in his headquarters but the doctors assured him everything would be fine. They told him that the device would work even with one egg. However, they said he should use his wife to test it when he gets home.

Okenwa as taken home by his driver. Throughout the period he was at the hospital, Eberechi did not visit him. She did not even care. She was busy setting up her business with the N3 million given to her by Alozie. She has already started going to her supermarket. The business was functioning. As a matter of fact, she did not want her husband to come back so soon because she had the opportunity to stay at the shop the way she wanted. When she saw her husband that evening, she did not even behave as if someone entered the house.

"You did not even visit me at the hospital. You are not a good person." Okenwa said to his wife. He did not use a loud voice because he knows he needed his wife that night. When he was coming home, he had branched to a restaurant and bought fried rice and chicken for Eberechi. He also bought her Holandia yoghurt. He wanted to use those things to lure her to the bedroom so that he will test his supreme headquarters.

"At least, I'm still your husband. No matter what happened, you are still my wife and I still love you." He said. He brought out the rice and yoghurt he bought and gave everything to Eberechi. She collected the food and ate. That night, her children had gone to bed. Because she went to shop, she was not able to cook. She was hungry. She ate the fried rice and chicken and also drank the juice. Throughout the period she was eating, Eberechi did not say a word to Okenwa. Okenwa went to the bathroom, took his bathe and sprayed perfume. He was ready for action. He touched his headquarters and he was happy that the thing was shaking head like agama lizard. He then stood at the door step of his bedroom and called Eberechi.

"My honey, please, come." Okenwa said.

"Come where?" Eberechi asked.

"Come to the bedroom let us play. I want to test something." Okenwa said pleadingly.

"You want to use me for experiment? You should 'kukuma' take me to the laboratory. You want to use me to do your experiment?" Eberechi asked.

"No! I just want to know if my headquarters is working. The doctors said I should test it. Please, help me." Okenwa said.

"No!" Eberechi replied.

"Please, now!" Okenwa said.

"No! Look for another place to put it." Eberechi said with laughter.
