The Man From China Episode Five
Chin Cheng is a very courageous man but he was shaken by fear when he saw the number of enemies that surrounded him. He knew that the hyenas were capable of killing him if they would be able to pounce on him. He was standing still and thinking of how to defeat the animals. The hyenas were closing in, targeting him and making their moves slowly but steadily. Chin Cheng knew that he was in a dangerous situation.
The worse thing was that he had already put his gun back into his bag and he had to try to bring it back without attracting the hyenas that had surrounded him like enemies in the battle ground. However, Chin Cheng is a smart man. When he was in China, he had received training in different areas. One of the trainings he received as a youth was how he could defend himself in the face of danger.
He was highly trained in Chinese Kung Fu. He knows how fight in tactical way. One of the tactics he was taught when he was learning Kung Fu was how to fight multiple enemies. He quickly used his eyes and counted the hyenas and discovered others had joined them. They were more than ten in number. Chin Cheng also used his eyes to map out how he would fight the animals or escape in a strategic way.
After a strategic analysis, he concluded that he cannot fight the animals and win. They were too many and there was no way he was going to survive.
"I think it is better for me to run away. If I decide to fight the hyenas, I will be taking a huge risk. They will pounce on me and tear me apart. I don't want that to happen." Chin Cheng said in his heart. The forest was dark such that it was even possible to touch the darkness. Chin Cheng saw an advantage in the darkness. He knew that if he puts off his torchlight, he has a greater opportunity to run away under the cover of darkness. But it was still a 50/50 affair because hyenas could see in darkness too.
"I think I should take that chance." Chin Cheng said as he quickly put off his torchlight. He had already mapped an opening which he would follow. He started running by going directly into the midst of the hyenas. They pursued him with acute intensity. They animals were very fast.
One of them ran very close to Chin Cheng and used its strong teeth to grab his trouser. He could not run fast again because the hyena wanted to dig teeth into his leg and he was struggling to free himself. As he struggled, the hyena refused to let go until his trouser got torn. One part of the trouser was left in in the hyena's mouth. Other hyenas were closing but Chin Cheng soon started running again.
It was a dangerous race in the dark. Chin Cheng was not seeing and he was afraid he was going to 'jam' a tree. He was running like a blind person.
He didn't know what was in front of him. As he was running, grasses and leaves were slapping him right left and center. But he was happy that the number of hyenas had reduced because he has outran most of them. However, the hyena which had grabbed his trouser and tore it, was still running after him with intensity. Chin Cheng was determined to win the race and survive.
"What am I going to do now? This hyena is bent on killing me tonight. But I'm bent on surviving. Nothing will happen to me. If only this hyena knows why I'm in this bush, it would have left me alone." Chin Cheng was thinking fast as he was running. Suddenly, he "jammed" a large tree and fell. His head was spinning like a roler- coaster because he hit the tree really had. When he fell, he lost control of all parts of his body. It was like his brain shut down. He was not moving at all, but he knew he was still alive because he could still think and hear.
Chin Cheng's bag was still hanging on him, but the torchlight he was holding fell from his hand. He was lying there lifeless and unable to help himself. His gun was still in his bag but he could not remove it. It was like he had been paralyzed. His problems had compounded. He hit the tree because of darkness and he fell very far away from it. It was like the tree flung him away like a piece of paper. He fell so far away that even the hyenas were looking for him and could not find him so easily.
"Oh my God! Am I going to die in this bush? I want to stay alive, because if I die, I will not be able to save my fiancée. I have to find her first before I will die." Chin Cheng said. He was still down where he fell, unable to move. The hyenas were busy looking for him and he was praying silently in his heart that they would not find him. He could hear the hyenas making tiny noises as they rummage the entire forest searching for him.
"God please let them not see me. Let them not find me. I want to stay alive. I want to live.
I don't want to die. I don't want the hyenas to eat me. How I wish I can run right now. I cannot move again. My head is spinning so badly. I need time to regain my senses before starting to run again. But if I don't stand up soon, my own has finished." Chin Cheng said tearfully.
As he was praying, the hyenas were able to find where he was. All the hyenas were there. They gathered around him happily, ready to consume him.
"So is this how my life will end? So these animals are about to eat me? So, I will soon be in their belly? What have I done to them? I'm Just here to rescue my fiancée." Chin Cheng said fearfully as the hyenas gather around him in meryment. He could not even stand up to run. He was helpless and weak. Suddenly, he heard a loud voice that sounded like that of Adanna. It was Adanna's voice. He had heard someone running around the bush, so she came out due to fear.
After the hyenas heard Adanna's voice, they left Chin Cheng started pursuing her. There was a large anthill in the forest. Adanna had made the anthill her home because ants were no longer there. She ran into the anthill and the animals passed. She then went back to where Chin Cheng was and carried him into the anthill.
