The Twin Pregnancy Episode Four

As the night got darker, Nene quickly made a decision not to sleep outside. She decided not to be stranded since she had money in her bank account. It was just as if she knew this day was going to come, so she had prepared for it and she was not taken unawares. When she opened her bank account years ago, she had also collected an ATM card which she hid in her school bag.

"The time has finally come for me to make good use of this card. I have been saving for a long time. Finally, the rainy day has come and my savings will rescue me." Nene said as she dipped hand in her bag and brought out the ATM card. She went to a POS shop and withdrew N50,000 for herself. After withdrawing the money, she used N15,000 to buy a phone for herself at a phone shop that was still open. She wanted to have a phone so that she will be able to communicate with people.

"Time to look for a hotel to pass the night." Nene said when she came out of the phone shop. She had her baggage with her so she was finding it difficult to walk. She stopped a taxi.

"Please take me to a hotel that is close by." Nene tells the taxi driver. The driver opened his car boot and helped Nene to load her luggage in It. She then entered the taxi and took the front seat and the driver zoomed off. Soon, they arrived at a nice-looking hotel.

"I hope this one is cheap. I don't have too much money. I just want a place to pass the night." Nene said to herself as she moved her bags into the hotel premises. She went to the reception area to ask of the price.

"It's N5000 per night." The receptionist tells Nene. She quickly paid the money. She knew she would spend only one night at the hotel. Her intention is to get her own apartment as soon as daybreak.

When Nene was shown to her hotel room, she opened it happily and arranged her bags in it and then went to take her bath. She decided to free her mind from all the problems at hand. She felt at home inside the hotel. After settling down, she ordered for fried rice and chicken from the hotel's canteen. The food was delivered to her and she ate with relish. She doesn't eat well in her aunt's house. And she has never spent her savings carelessly on food. But on this particular night, she felt the need to eat well.

"I cannot allow hunger to deal with me. I will eat so that my unborn child will see food in my belly to eat as well." Nene said as shew chewed the chicken bone and swallowed everything. When she was done eating, she lay on the bed and put on the phone she bought. Nene brought out a notebook where she wrote her mother's number. She dialed the number and her mother picked.

"Hello mama. Good evening. It's Nene. This is my number. I have bought a phone. You can save the number." Nene said to her mother who was surprised to hear that her daughter is now a phone owner.

"Who bought the phone for you? Is it your aunt?" Nene's mother asked.

"I bought the phone myself. Mama, I didn't steal the phone and I didn't steal the money I used to buy it. I hustled for the money myself. Besides, I'm no longer living with my aunt. She chased me out of her house. As I'm talking to you, I'm in a hotel room." Nene informs her mother who immediately became worried.

"Ah! What happened? What did you do to her? Are you sure you are fine?" Her mother asked with apprehension.

"I'm fine mama. I did something very wrong and she decided to chase me out. I don't blame her, if I were in her shoes, I would have probably done the same thing." Nene responded.

"What did you do? Did you steal her money?" Her mother asked.

"No mama! I already told you that I did not steal. But I made a terrible mistake. I got pregnant. And the worse is that the man who got me pregnant denied it and left me in the rain. In fact, the man even ran away. My aunt could not bear it, so she sent me packing." Nene said. She was speaking normally without giving away any form of fear. Even her mother was surprised at the level of confidence Nene was displaying.

"You got pregnant? Please tell me you are joking Nene. You have not even finished your secondary school and you rushed and got pregnant? You want to bring shame to me?" Her mother said.

"Pregnancy is not shame mama. I'm carrying a child in my womb, not an animal. And I have vowed to keep the child. Yes, it is true that being a mother is not easy, but it has happened and I cannot change the situation. It's true that I should not have gotten pregnant before marriage, but the mistake has happened and I have forgiven myself and I'm ready to move on. I'm asking you to forgive me too. I know you feel disappointed, you feel I should have been married before getting pregnant, but it is not always like that for everyone girl. I'm not bragging about my mistake, but I won't worry too much either. Getting worried doesn't solve any problem. Don't worry mama, even with this pregnancy, I will still make you proud." Nene said. She sounded so positive, making her mother to promise to stand by her.

"But how are you coping? How many nights have spent at the hotel? Shouldn't you consider coming back to the village? You are still very young, can you pay your bills in Abuja?" Nene's mother asked.

"I will be fine mama. I saved some money from the business I'm doing. I will use it wisely and set up something for myself." Nene tells her mother as she ends the call and slept off peacefully like a baby.
