“Afrobeats Paved Way For African Music”- Tyla

South African artist Tyla has recognized the impact of Afrobeats after winning the Best Afrobeats, Best African Act, and Best R&B awards at the 2024 MTV EMAs.

She outperformed well-known artists like Ayra Starr, DBN Gogo, Diamond Platnumz, and TitoM & Yuppe.

In her acceptance speech, Tyla expressed gratitude for Afrobeats, stating, “Thank you to Afrobeats, it has opened many doors for African music.”

This reference to Afrobeats follows her 2024 VMAs victory, where she showcased her Amapiano background with her popular song “Water,” which also features Afrobeats elements.

Tyla outperformed well-known Nigerian artists like Asake, Rema, Ayra Starr, Burna Boy, and Tems at both the VMAs and EMAs.
