My Mother-in-law Hates Me

Episode 8

When Linda got home from the hospital, she was very weak. She stood in front of the house and knocked softly on the door. It took a while before anyone came to open. Finally, her mother-in-law opened the door slowly. The moment she saw Linda, she hissed loudly and frowned. She did not even ask how Linda was doing. Linda tried to greet her politely.

“Good evening, Mama,” she said in a low voice. But the old woman ignored her greeting and walked back to her room without saying a single word. Linda stood there, heartbroken and speechless.

Tears gathered in Linda’s eyes as she entered the house quietly. The atmosphere was cold and unfriendly. She could feel the hatred in the air. She walked slowly to her room and sat on the edge of her bed. She began to cry again.

“What kind of life is this?” she asked herself. She thought about everything that had happened—how she was beaten, how she lost her baby, and how her husband abandoned her in the hospital. She could not understand why her mother-in-law hated her with so much passion and bitterness.

After crying for a long time, Linda wiped her tears and stood up. She could no longer hold the pain inside. She decided to confront her mother-in-law once and for all.

“I can’t continue to keep quiet,” she said to herself. She walked straight to the old woman’s room and knocked on the door. The old woman opened the door with an angry face. “What do you want?” she barked. Linda took a deep breath. “Mama, I need to talk to you,” she said calmly. “You have hurt me too much. I can’t keep quiet anymore.”

The old woman folded her arms and looked at her with disdain. “Talk fast, I don’t have time for nonsense,” she said. Linda’s voice began to shake as she spoke. “Mama, you are a monster,” she said, tears rolling down her face. “You were the one who beat me till I fainted. You did not even visit me in the hospital. You almost killed me and I lost my baby, and you don’t even care. What did I ever do to you to deserve all this wickedness?” Linda asked bitterly, raising her voice in anger.

The old woman hissed again and laughed mockingly. “So you came here to insult me?” she said. “Instead of thanking me for training you into a good woman, you are here shouting like a mad person. If you know what is good for you, go to the kitchen and cook my food before I deal with you.”

Linda was shocked. “Mama, you mean after everything you did to me, you are still commanding me to cook for you?” she asked in disbelief. “I will not do it. I’m not your slave.”

The old woman’s eyes widened in anger. “What did you just say to me?” she asked. “I said I will not cook,” Linda repeated, standing her ground. “You can go to the kitchen and cook your own food. I’m tired of this wickedness.” Before Linda could finish talking, her mother-in-law raised her hand and slapped her hard across the face. “You are mad! You want to talk to me like that in my own house?” she shouted. The slap was so painful that Linda held her cheek, shaking with anger.

For the first time, Linda lost control. “Enough is enough, Mama!” she shouted. “You have treated me like trash since I got married to your son. You have insulted me, beaten me, and even caused me to lose my baby. But today, I will not take it again!” The old woman tried to slap her again, but this time Linda blocked her hand and slapped her back. “Mama, this is for every tear you made me cry!” Linda shouted as she slapped her five times in quick succession.

The old woman staggered backward, breathing heavily. She tried to speak but couldn’t. “You… you…” she stammered, holding her chest. Then, suddenly, she collapsed to the floor with a loud thud. Linda froze where she was standing.
