The Letter From Thieves, Episode 2

The thieves kept knocking at the door with force. They knocked heavily and did not give any breathing space. Their knocks sounded very loud. As they were knocking, the thieves were calling Mark’s name as if they know who he is. Stephanie listened to them with rapt attention. She wondered why they kept calling her husband’s name and saying things that suggested they knew who he was. Stephanie tiptoed out of the bedroom and went to the living room. She wanted to hear the voices of the thieves clearly. She also want to see their faces, if possible. She peeped through the pigeonhole of the door and saw that the thieves were at least 10 in number. They were dressed in red and black clothes. But one thing surprised her, the thieves were not carrying weapons. They were mostly empty-handed.

“The thieves are dressed like cultists. They don’t even have weapons. I have never seen this type of thieves before. They look so scary. I don’t think I will stay here for them to come and meet me. I have to leave this place. If my husband wants to stay, he should stay, but as for me, I’m running away from this house,” Stephanie tells herself while in the living room.

Earlier in the afternoon, Stephanie had made plans on how to escape from the building because she did not understand what her husband was thinking. She had kept the key to the backdoor in her trouser pocket. She wanted the key to be very close by the time she needs it. So, it was not difficult for her to open the backdoor after she peeped through the front door and saw the thieves. She quickly rushed to the backdoor, opened it and walked out of the mansion. The back of the mansion has a small road that leads to the city gate. She quickly followed the road and disappeared into the night.

Stephanie thought of leaving the estate entirely but she decided against the idea. She did not want the security at the estate gate to start questioning her. Stephanie decided to sleep inside an uncompleted building in the estate. That was where she would pass the night.

“This is better than staying my husband’s mansion for the thieves to come and meet me there. I would rather sleep outside that inside that mansion,” she said in her heart. The night’s cold was dealing with her but she had no other option but to endure.

Back home at the mansion, the thieves continued to knock at the door with serious intensity. The loud knocks at the door woke Mark from sleep. He quickly rushed to the door and opened it. He opened it as if the thieves were his friends.

“Bring out your wife. We sent the letter so that your wife will not know that you belong to a cult. Because of the letter, she will think we are armed robbers. She will not know that you are our friend. It is your turn for you to give us your wife to sleep with her. You know the rules in our secret cult. The rule is that once you get married, all of us will sleep with your wife. You have slept with all our wives when we got married. Now, it is your turn to give us your wife to sleep with. All of us must sleep with her this night. It is the rule. This is what makes us rich. Once we sleep with each other’s wives, we mix our male liquids together and drink it. Because of that, our money continues to increase. Now, bring your wife immediately. We have to act fast and leave before daybreak,” the leader of the thieves said.

Mark is rich because he belonged to secret cult. Their number practice is to sleep with each other’s wives. Now, it has reached mark’s turn. The thieves are his friends because they belong to the same secret cult. They usually visit the house of their members to sleep with their wives once the person gets married. However, their visits are usually presented as armed robbery, which was why they send a letter first.

After the cult leader finished talking, Mark quickly rushed into the room to look for his wife, but he quickly discovered that his wife was not around. He ran around the entire house searching for his wife but he did not find her. He wondered what he will tell his cult members who were eagerly waiting to see his wife. Shortly, he came out from the room without his wife following him. He was afraid because he knows the consequence of not presenting his wife to the cult members.

“Unfortunately, my wife is not in the house. I don’t know where she went to. Maybe she has run away. I did my best to keep her in the house but it appears she got afraid and disappeared from the house. Please, I’m begging you people to return tomorrow, I will find her and keep her here for you,” Mark said to his fellow cult members.

“Mr Mark, you know the consequences of not giving us your wife. If you fail to present your wife to us within seven days, you will become poor. Not only that, you will die. That is the rule in our cult. You have enjoyed sleeping with other people’s wives. Now, it is your turn to present your own wife, but you decided to hide her from us. We will be back here tomorrow and everyday until seven days. Remember, your life and your wealth is at stake,” the cult leader said to Mark. The cult members all left the house without stealing anything.

“Where did Stephanie go? Why did she leave the house without telling me? Wherever she is, I will find her and fulfil my part of the cult rules. She cannot escape. I will not lose my wealth and I will not lose my life,” Mark said.
