The Gen Z Housemaid

Episode 7

Jane is already seeing herself as the madam of the house. This is because she has captured Chief Okolo's heart. She knows that she has power in the house and she is bent on using her power to collect the N500k from Kelvin.

Jane was still standing in front of Kelvin that night. Her eyes were full of anger. She folded her hands and spoke to Kelvin like a child.

“Kelvin, I am not joking with you. That N500,000 must come out. You cannot just eat it alone. Remember that I was the one who brought you to this house. Don’t be ungrateful. Give me the money.” She said.

“Jane, I said it before and I will say it again. The money is mine. You are not getting 'shishi' from me." Kelvin said.

“You are very stubborn, Kelvin. But let me tell you, you will regret this stubbornness. If you don’t share that money with me, I will make sure you don’t last in this house. I will make sure you are sacked. Mark my words.” She said while wagging her finger at him.

“You cannot do anything. You don’t have any power here. Deborah trusts me now. Chief likes me. Your threats are empty. Keep trying. You will fail.” Kelvin responded.

Jane was burning inside with anger. She walked out of the boy’s quarters and entered the main house.

"This boy wants to challenge me? He thinks I don’t know what to do? I will teach him a bitter lesson. If he cannot give me that money peacefully, I will make sure he leaves this house empty-handed. I will set him up, and they will sack him in disgrace." She said in her heart as she walked into the main house.

Later that evening, Chief Okolo was in his bathroom, preparing to take his bath. Jane tiptoed into his room quietly. She looked around carefully to make sure nobody was watching. On his dressing table, she saw the gold wrist watch he always loved to wear. She picked it quickly and slipped it inside her dress. Then she left the room silently. She waited for the perfect time. When Kelvin drove Deborah to the supermarket later that evening, Jane sneaked into his room in the boy’s quarters. She opened Kelvin's bag and carefully hid the wrist watch inside.

After hiding the watch, Jane laughed in her heart.

"Yes, this is the end of Kelvin. Tomorrow, I will tell Chief that he is a thief. They will search his bag, and they will see the watch. He will be disgraced and chased out of this house. Then all the attention will return to me. I will be the only one getting money here. He thinks he is wise, but I am wiser." Jane said. She smiled with satisfaction and returned to her room.

That night around 12am, she went into Chief’s room as usual, ready to give him good bedroom service.

"I love you so much Jane. At this point, I even love you more than my wife. Please, don't stop coming to my room." Chief said, as Jane was helping him change oil in his engine.

When they finished, Jane lay on the bed beside Chief Okolo and touched him gently. She knows it's the perfect time to make a request.

“Chief, I have a small request,” she said sweetly. Chief turned to her with a smile.

“What request is that, my dear Jane?” She sat up and pretended to be serious.

“Chief, I don’t want that new driver to remain in this house. I want you to sack him.” Jane said. Chief was surprised.

“What do you mean? Kelvin? Why should I sack him? He just resumed work not even up to two days now. Has he done anything wrong?” He asked.

“Yes, Chief. He is a thief.” Jane said.

“A thief? What are you saying? Explain yourself, Jane.” Chief said. Jane pretended to be sad. She lowered her voice as she spoke.

“Chief, I didn’t want to tell you before, but I saw him stealing your gold wrist watch. He kept it in his bag in the boy’s quarters. I don’t want such a person around us. He is dangerous. Please sack him before he brings shame to this family.” Jane said.

Chief was shocked. “Are you sure of what you are saying? Do you mean my wrist watch is missing?”

“Yes, Chief.” Jane said.

The next morning, very early, even before Deborah woke up from sleep, Chief Okolo went straight to Kelvin’s room in the boy’s quarters. He knocked hard on the door until Kelvin opened. Kelvin was looking confused.

“Good morning, sir,” Kelvin greeted with a bow. But Chief is not smiling.

“Kelvin, where is my gold wrist watch?” Chief asked sharply. Kelvin was shocked.

“Your wrist watch? Sir, I don’t know what you are talking about." He said. Chief folded his arms in anger.

“Don’t lie to me. Bring out your bags. Let us see what is inside.” Chief said.

Kelvin was trembling now. “Sir, I swear I don’t know anything about your wrist watch. I have never even entered your room before. Please, believe me,” he begged.

“Stop wasting my time! Bring your bags out now!” Chief shouted. Kelvin carried his bags and placed them on the floor. Chief opened them one after the other. Then, to Kelvin’s greatest shock, the gold wrist watch was lying inside one of his bags. He opened his mouth in shock and almost fainted.

“Sir, I don’t know how this thing entered my bag. Believe me, I am innocent!” Kelvin said.

But Chief Okolo was not ready to listen. He was angry. “So, Jane was right. You are truly a thief. How dare you steal from me in my own house? From today, you will never step your foot into this compound again. Pack your things and leave immediately. You are a thief. You are fired!” Chief shouted with a loud voice that shook the room. Kelvin knelt down and begged with tears, but Chief did not listen.

“You are a thief. You are sacked,” Chief shouted.
