Long-distance Relationship

Episode 4

Jemima’s heart was beating fast as she stood by the door. It's now up to 10 minutes since Femi knocked at the door. She could hear Femi knocking again and calling her name.

She knew she had no choice but to open the door for him. But one thought ran through her mind.

"I can't allow him to see Bruno. It will be a disaster." Jemima said to herself.

She must make sure Femi does not see Bruno. She turned quickly and rushed back to the bedroom. Bruno was standing by the bed, looking frightened.

“He’s still outside,” Jemima whispered. “You have to leave now before he comes in.”

“Where do I go? How do I get out?” he asked in a low voice.

Jemima walked to the window and pushed it open. “Jump through the window. Go and hide at the back of the house. Please be quiet,” she said. Bruno looked at her for a moment, then nodded.

“Alright. Be careful. Don’t let him suspect anything,” he said as he climbed through the window. Jemima watched as he jumped down and ran behind the building.

She quickly closed the window, arranged the bed, and checked the mirror to make sure she looked normal. Then she rushed to the door and opened it for Femi.

The moment she saw Femi standing there, tears filled her eyes. She jumped into his arms and hugged him tightly.

“Femi! You didn’t tell me you were coming. I can’t believe you’re here!” she said excitedly. Femi smiled and held her even tighter.

“I wanted to surprise you, my love. I’ve missed you every single day,” he said softly.

Jemima pretended to cry out of joy, but her tears were mixed with guilt. She knew what she had just done with Bruno. She knew what was hiding behind her house.

Femi carried his bag inside the house and sat down. “Wow, it feels good to be back home,” he said with happiness.

“This place still smells like you, Jemima.” Jemima laughed softly, trying to act normal.

“You should have told me you were coming. I would have prepared something special,” she said. Femi shook his head.

“No, I wanted it to be a surprise. I wanted to see your true reaction. And I love what I saw,” he said with a smile. Jemima blushed slightly and turned away. “Let me get you some food,” she said quickly.

While Jemima was in the kitchen, Bruno quietly sneaked from behind the house. He peeped through the window and saw Femi relaxing on the couch. He waited until he was sure Femi was deep in conversation with Jemima, then tiptoed to the gate. He looked around carefully, opened the gate gently, and escaped. Jemima was still serving Femi dinner when Bruno finally left the compound. She looked through the window and saw that he was gone. She sighed in relief.

“Thank God,” she whispered. Femi looked up. “What did you say?” he asked. “Nothing, dear. Just talking to myself,” she replied.

They both sat down to eat together. Femi couldn’t stop looking at her.

“You’re still as beautiful as ever, Jemima,” he said lovingly.

“And you still know how to make me blush,” she replied softly. They talked about many things — how life had been for Femi in America, the challenges, his dreams, and how much he missed her.

After they finished eating, Femi stood up and walked close to her.

“Please, let’s go to the bedroom. I want to be with you tonight. I’ve missed you too much.” Jemima’s heart skipped a beat, but she smiled and said, “I want it badly too.”

Femi took her hand and led her into the bedroom. As he touches her, she tried to push her guilt aside. She wanted to focus on him. They lay on the bed together. For that moment, Jemima forgot everything and gave herself completely to him.

It was a long and passionate night. Femi held her tightly as if he never wanted to let her go. He whispered words of love into her ears.

“You are my world, Jemima. You are the reason I came back home. I can’t wait to make you my wife,” he said.

“I love you too,” she whispered back. But inside her mind, her heart was troubled. She knew the truth she was hiding. She knew the baby inside her was not Femi’s. But now that he was back, she had already made up her mind to pin it on him.

When morning came, Jemima stood by the window watching the sunlight fill the room. Femi was still asleep beside her. She turned and looked at him. He looked peaceful and happy.

She touched her stomach gently. “He will never know. I will make sure of that.” She said. Her secret was safe for now.

Later that morning, Femi woke up and pulled her close again. “I’m the happiest man on earth,” he said.

“You’ve made me happy too,” she said. Femi had no idea what she was hiding. He had no idea that Bruno had just escaped through the window the night before. He only saw love and happiness.

“Everything is working perfectly as planned. Now that he has made love to me, I will pin the pregnancy on him. He will never know the truth.” Jemima said to herself.
