The Brave Hunter - Episode 16

The sun was hot in the sky when the king arrived at the village square. The farmer walked beside him. The princess was just behind them, and Lucky the dog ran happily, wagging its tail.

"I hope they will set me free. I don't want to die.Uche said when he saw the king, the princess and the farmer.

The villagers, who had been waiting since morning, began to shout when they saw the king. The noise filled the air. Some clapped. Some whistled. Some shouted the king's name. They believed that now the king had come, the "show" would start. They wanted to see Uche punished.

The warriors holding Uche stood straight. Uche's hands were tied, and his face looked tired. The princess saw him and her heart beat faster.

He has suffered so much.The princess said in her heart.

She wanted to run to him, but she waited. The king raised his hand, and the crowd became quiet for a moment but only for a moment.

Then something unexpected happened. The king spoke in a loud, clear voice.

"Untie that man,he said. "Set him free."

The crowd went silent instantly. They could not believe what they had just heard. The joy that was on their faces turned to shock. Some opened their mouths but no words came out. The warriors looked at one another. The leader of the warriors stepped forward.

"My king... did I hear you well? Should we untie him?" The warrior asked.

"Yes. You heard me well. Untie him now." The king said.

The warrior still looked unsure. "But my king,

this man is a kidnapper.He said but the king asked him to shut up.

"This man is innocent. You arrested him without asking questions. You thought he was the one who kidnapped my daughter. You were wrong. He is not the kidnapper. He is the man who saved her life." The king said.

"It was Uche who rescued my daughter when the kidnappers took her. He blew charms into the air and made the kidnappers fall asleep. Then he carried her to safety. If not for him, my daughter would be dead today. How can you kill the man who saved her life?" The king asked.

The warriors quickly untied Uche. His hands dropped free. He rubbed his wrists slowly. Lucky the dog barked and ran to him, jumping around happily. The princess could not hold herself again. She ran forward and hugged him tightly. Uche held her gently, still looking confused. The farmer came forward and shook Uche's hand firmly.

"Welcome back, my friend. We thank God for your life." The farmer said.

The king raised his hand again, and everyone became quiet.

"I have another announcement. Something you do not know." The king said. The crowd waited. Some came forward to hear well. The king looked at his daughter and then at Uche.

"My daughter has told me that she is in love with Uche, the brave hunter. At first, I was angry. I did not want my daughter to marry a poor man. But now, I see clearly. A man's worth is not in how much money he has, but in his courage, his heart, and his honour. Uche is a brave and good man. He will make a good husband for my daughter." The king said. The people shouted in shock. Before they could recover, the king spoke again.

"My daughter is also pregnant for him." he said.

The crowd exploded with noise. Some shouted in surprise. Some laughed. Some clapped. A few women put their hands on their heads in shock. The princess held Uche's hand. Uche looked at her with wide eyes.

"You told him?" Uche asked.

"Yes. He knows everything now." The princess said.

The king lifted his hand again. He spoke again. "Listen to me. I have agreed for them to marry. The whole kingdom is invited to their wedding, which will happen very soon. From today, Uche is no longer just a hunter. He is my in-law."

The cheer that followed was loud enough to be heard in the next village. Some men started drumming. Women danced in circles. Children ran around laughing. The warriors who once tied Uche now smiled and patted him on the back.

The king spoke to the crowd one last time. "Go home. Uche will not be killed. He is now my son-in-law. Treat him with respect." The king said.

And just like that, the fear in Uche's heart melted away. He was no longer a prisonerHe was no longer a suspect. He was now the king's in-law, and the whole village knew it.

That evening, after the crowd had gone and the palace was quiet, Prince Awanti arrived. He was the rich prince who wanted to marry the princess. He was very angry that the princess chose a poor man over him. He felt humiliated. He entered the king's chamber and spoke to him.

"Your Majesty, I heard what happened today. Is it true that you are allowing your daughter to marry that poor hunter? This is shamefulShe was promised to me. I am a prince from a noble family. How can you throw away that honour for someone who owns nothing but a dog?" The prince said.

"Prince Awanti, I cannot force my daughter to marry a man she does not love. I can't force her to marry youShe has chosen Uche, and I must respect that." The king said.

So you will ignore the bond between our kingdoms? You will let your royal bloodline mix with that of a commoner? This is an insult to my people." The princes said.

"Love is stronger than titles. I will not break my daughter's heart for the sake of pride." The king responded.

"Then let us see who truly deserves her. I am challenging Uche to a wrestling match. Whoever wins will marry the princess. Let the people witness it." Prince Awanti said.

"If that is what you want, I will not stop it" The king responded.

When Uche was told, he stood tall and accepted the challenge.

"I accept the challenge. I will not run from him. If I must fight for the woman I love, I will fight." He said.

The king nodded. "So be it. We will announce it to the whole village tomorrow.Word spread quickly that night. From house to house, people talked about the upcoming wrestling match between the noble prince and the brave hunter.

Some said the prince would crush Uche easily.

Others believed Uche's courage and strength would surprise everyone. The stage was set for another great day in the village.
