The Childless Wife Episode 4

"I have a surprise for you. It's actually good news. Can you guese?" Lolade asked her husband one evening. She was smiling from ear to ear. She has never been that happy and her husband could see that something special was behind her happiness.

"What is the surprise? Please tell me. It has been long I heard any good news." Her husband said. He was drinking wine. He took the bottle of wine and poured some of it for Lolade.

"God has blessed us." Lolade said happily as she sat down beside her husband. When Lolade's pregnancy got to one month, she could not hide it from her husband anymore because the signs were everywhere on her body. She decided it was time to pin it on him. She has already gone to the hospital and confirmed the pregnancy through a blood test.

The doctor wrote the result officially on a document. She took the document to her husband when he returned from work that evening. Her husband was resting in the living room when Lolade dropped the paper on his lap and asked him to open it.

"Open the envelope and see what is written inside." Lolade said. Her husband picked the envelope and practically tore it open out of happiness and excitement. He could not wait to see what was written inside.

"I'm pregnant. God has heard our prayers. God has shown me mercy. After many years of crying and sorrow, I'm finally going to become a mother. You are going to become a father." Lolade tells her husband with a smile on her face.

"Oh my God. I can see it. It is clearly written on the document. This is excellent news. I have been waiting for this news since the day I got married to you. This is the best gift anyone has ever given to me." Her husband said as he jumped out of the chair and hugged her tightly. They celebrated the moment with more wine.

"This is a perfect gift from God." Lolade tells her husband. He lifted her up as joy and celebration filled the room. Laughter and sounds of joy filled the whole house. Even neighbours heard them and wondered what the noise was about.

"Please, from today on, don't do any house work. I will assist in doing everything. Even if it means taking a break from work, I will do it. Even if it means quitting my job, I will quit just to take good care of you and to protect the baby in your womb." Lolade's husband said. He hugged his wife once again.

However, inwardly, Lolade knew the child does not belong to her husband. She wondered why her husband could not get her pregnant. She cried inwardly. In fact, she went to the bathroom to cry later in the night when they finished celebrating.

"I don't know why I have to go this far just to get a baby. I don't know what happened to my husband. Why couldn't he get me pregnant? Why did I get pregnant after allowing the pastor to touch me? This is not good but I did not have any option. I needed a child. I desperately need the cry of a baby in this house." Lolade said to herself.

Later that night when they went to bed, Lolade's phone started ringing. She was not sleeping because her mind was processing the fact that noise was about.

"Please, from today on, don't do any house work. I will assist in doing everything. Even if it means taking a break from work, I will do it. Even if it means quitting my job, I will quit just to take good care of you and to protect the baby in your womb." Lolade's husband said. He hugged his wife once again.

However, inwardly, Lolade knew the child does not belong to her husband. She wondered why her husband could not get her pregnant. She cried inwardly. In fact, she went to the bathroom to cry later in the night when they finished celebrating.

"I don't know why I have to go this far just to get a baby. I don't know what happened to my husband. Why couldn't he get me pregnant? Why did I get pregnant after allowing the pastor to touch me? This is not good but I did not have any option. I needed a child. I desperately need the cry of a baby in this house." Lolade said to herself.

Later that night when they went to bed, Lolade's phone started ringing. She was not sleeping because her mind was processing the fact that she was pregnant for another man while still living under her husband's roof. She took the phone and looked at the screen. It was the pastor that was calling her. She went out to answer the call in the toilet.

"Why haven't I seen you in many days? You have stopped coming." The pastor asked with an angry voice.

"I'm already pregnant. There is no need for me to keep coming. I have gotten what I was looking for. I was looking for a baby and I now have the baby in my womb. There is no need for me to keep coming to visit you. It is too risky and I don't think I will keep doing that." Lolade tells the pastor.

"Congratulations on your pregnancy. Wow! I'm happy for you. I told you that God will use me to bless you. I told you I can do it. I told you I have been doing this job for a long time. Now, you have seen that I was not telling lies." The pastor said happily.

"Thank you sir. Good night sir." Lolade said.

"Wait a second. I know you are pregnant, but you have to keep coming. If you can't come, it means you have to pay me money. You will have to pay me to keep quiet. If you don't give me N5 million, I will tell your husband everything. So, the choice is yours. It's either you keep visiting me or, you pay me off with N5 million. If you refuse to visit me and if you don't give me the money, your husband will hear everything. And let me warn you, don't even try to go against what I have said. I'm fully prepared for you. Make your choice wisely. Ask questions about me before deciding to fight me. Good night." The pastor said and ended the call even before Lolade could respond to the things he said.
