Unexpected Wealth Episode 2

Chief Eze sat quietly in the hospital waiting room, his eyes fixed on the white tiles. Victoria sat beside him, holding her son Temi's hand. Temi kept looking around, unsure of what to say or how to feel. A nurse walked in with a tray of blood collection tubes and called their names. They all stood up. The nurse led them into a private room. "Please sit," she said politely. She took Chief Eze's blood first, then Temi's, then Victoria's. "The result will be out in a few hours," the nurse said. "You'll be called once it's ready."

Outside the hospital, Titi sat in the car, lost in her thoughts. It was a strange day for her. For years, she had prayed for a child. Now, a boy who might be her husband's son had shown up with his mother. When Chief came out of the hospital ward, he opened the car door and entered quietly.

"How did it go?" Titi asked.

"They've collected the samples," Chief replied. "We'll get the results today."

Titi nodded slowly. "If the boy is truly yours, I will accept him," she said. "I don't want him to suffer."

Back in the waiting room, Temi leaned close to his mother and whispered, "Mama, what if he denies me?"

Victoria rubbed his back and replied softly, "We've done the test, my son. The truth will come out. If he is your father, the result will prove it. No one can change that." Chief Eze sat across from them, watching quietly. His mind went back to the day Victoria had told him she was pregnant. He had given her money and asked her to abort it. He never thought the child would be alive today.

A hospital worker came in and handed them a piece of paper. "The results are ready," she said. "Follow me."

They all stood up and walked silently behind her. She led them into a doctor's office. The doctor was seated with the DNA test results in front of him. He looked at them and smiled faintly.

"Good afternoon," he said. "I have the results here. The DNA shows a 99.9% match between Chief Eze and Temi. That means Chief is the biological father of the boy." Victoria closed her eyes. Chief nodded slowly, still taking it in.

"Thank you, Doctor," Chief said. He turned to Temi and looked at him properly for the first time.

"So you're really my son," he said. Temi nodded, unsure of how to respond.

"What's your full name?" Chief asked. "Temi Victor," the boy replied.

"From now on, you'll answer Temi Eze," Chief said.

"You are now part of my family." Titi placed her hand on Temi's shoulder.

"You are welcome to our home," she said. "I have no child of my own, but I've always wanted someone to call me mummy. I hope you'll accept me."

They left the hospital together in Chief's car. Victoria sat at the back with Temi while Titi and Chief sat in front. No one said much during the ride home. Chief looked at his son through the rear mirror from time to time.

"You look like my father when he was young," Chief said. Temi smiled shyly. "You'll get used to us soon," Titi added. "Just take your time."

When they reached the house, one of the security guards opened the gate. The car drove in. Chief came down and said, "Let's celebrate."

Inside the sitting room, Victoria looked around in surprise. It was a mansion. She never imagined that one day her son would enter that house as the owner's child. Chief Eze opened a small fridge by the corner and brought out a bottle of wine. He called the housemaid to bring extra glasses.

"Today is special," Chief said. "I've lived all these years thinking I had no child. Now, I have a son. That is worth celebrating." He opened the wine and poured it. They all raised their glasses.

"To Temi Eze," Chief said proudly.

Temi sipped the wine and sat down beside Victoria. "Mama, I don't even know how to feel," he whispered. "This house is too big. Everything feels strange."

"Don't worry," Victoria replied. "You will get used to it." Titi came to sit beside them.

"I know this is sudden, Temi," she said. "But from today, you are my child too. You'll go to a good school. You'll learn to manage businesses. I'll treat you like my own." Temi nodded.

"Thank you, ma," he said quietly. "You can call me mummy," she replied with a smile.

Later that night, Victoria asked to go home. "I'll come back tomorrow to bring some of his things," she said. Chief Eze agreed.

"You've done well by keeping the child," he told her. "Many women would have taken the money and aborted. I'm glad you didn't." Victoria smiled.

"Thank you for accepting him," she said. Temi hugged her tightly. "Bye, Mama."

After she left, Chief showed Temi to his room. "This is now your room," he said. "You can decorate it anyhow you like."

Temi looked around in surprise. "Thank you,

sir," he said. "Call me Daddy," Chief replied.

As Temi lay on the big bed that night, he thought of the past. He remembered the small room he shared with his mother and how they managed to feed. Life had changed quickly. He was now the son of a wealthy man. The air-conditioner hummed softly. His phone buzzed with a message from his mother: "Sleep well, my son. God has started your story. Be wise."

Temi replied, "Amen. I love you, Mama." For the first time in his life, he slept in comfort, but somewhere in his heart, he knew this was just the beginning.
