Unexpected Wealth Episode 1
Victoria stood outside the tall gate of Chief Eze's mansion, holding her son's hand. Temi was now 20 years old, tall and slim. He looked around the compound with quiet curiosity. Victoria had spent years thinking about this moment. She had not seen Chief in over two decades. When she became pregnant years ago, he had given her money to abort the child. But she kept the baby and raised him alone. She was now ready to tell the truth. She pressed the doorbell. A security man opened. "Who do you want to see?" he asked. "Chief Eze," she replied.
"Chief no dey house now," the man said. "But madam dey inside." Victoria nodded. "Let me talk to her. It's very important." The man looked her up and down, then opened the gate. Victoria and Temi walked into the compound. Inside the house, the maid called out to Titi, Chief's wife. Titi came down, dressed in a silk wrapper. She looked at Victoria and Temi, confused. "Yes? Can I help you?" she asked.
Victoria stood straight and said, "I'm here to see Chief. I brought his son." Titi blinked. "His what?"
"His son," Victoria repeated, pointing to Temi.
Titi sat down slowly. She looked at Temi closely. "Your son?" she asked. "How?" Victoria gave a weak smile..
"Twenty years ago, I was with Chief. I got pregnant. He asked me to remove the child. I didn't. This is him-Temi." Titi shook her head.
"Wait. Are you saying Chief has a child with you?"
Victoria nodded. "Yes. He is Chief Eze's child." Titi stood up, breathing hard.
"That's not possible. Chief never told me anything like this. He would never hide something this big." Victoria opened her bag and brought out an old photo. "This was us. Look closely."
Titi took the picture and stared at it. It was indeed Chief. He looked much younger, wearing a native outfit and smiling beside Victoria. They looked like a couple.
"I still don't understand," Titi said. "Why now? Why bring this boy after so many years?"
Victoria sat down slowly. "I tried reaching him long ago, but he cut me off. I heard he got married, so I stayed away. But now, I want my son to know his father. That's all. Temi needs to know where he comes from."
Titi looked again at Temi. "How old are you, boy?" she asked.
"I'm twenty," Temi replied. "My name is Temi." His voice was calm. He had the posture and confidence of someone who had nothing to hide. Titi sighed.
"Chief and I never had children," she said softly. "We tried everything. I didn't know if this was the reason." She stared at the photo again. The silence in the room was heavy.
"I didn't come here to cause trouble," Victoria said. "I just want the truth to come out. If Chief denies the child, we can do a DNA test. But | know he is the father." Titi slowly nodded, her mind clearly spinning.
The sound of a car horn outside broke the silence. Chief Eze had arrived. The gate opened, and he drove in.
Victoria stood up. "Let me talk to him myself," she said. Titi didn't stop her. Temi followed his mother out. Chief parked his car and stepped out. He was in his sixties, with grey hair and a strong frame. He looked surprised to see Victoria.
"Victoria?" he said. "Is this really you?" She smiled. "Yes, it's me. I came to see you." He looked at Temi, then back at her.
"Who is this?" he asked.
"Your son," she answered.
Chief Eze was silent for a long moment. "My what?" he said slowly. "My son?"
Victoria nodded. "You remember what happened years ago. You gave me money to end the pregnancy. I didn't. This is the child." Chief looked at Temi closely. His hands fell to his sides. He could see his younger self in the boy's face. The same nose. Same eyebrows. Same expression.
"Why didn't you come earlier?" Chief asked. "I tried, but you stopped calling. Then I heard you got married. I didn't want to ruin anything. But now, Temi deserves to know his father."
Titi had come outside to join them. She stood beside her husband.
"Chief," she said quietly. "This boy might be your only child. Let's find out the truth." Chief nodded slowly.
"Yes. If what she said is true, then we'll confirm it. I want a DNA test done."
Victoria agreed. "No problem. I'll give you any sample you need. Temi too." Temi said nothing. He only stared at the man who might be his father. The gate was now closed, but everything inside the compound was about to change.
Chief looked at Victoria again. "Come inside," he said. "Let's talk."
As they all entered the house, the tension was high. The maid brought soft drinks, but no one touched it. Chief asked Temi to sit near him.
"So, what have you been doing with yourself?"
Chief asked.
"I just finished secondary school," Temi replied. "I wanted to go to university, but we didn't have money."
Chief's eyes turned to Victoria. "So you've been struggling?"
She nodded. "Yes. I tried my best."
He looked at Temi again. "You might just be my only child. We need to find out. If it's true, then your life will never be the same again."
Titi said nothing. She stood quietly, watching everything unfold. Her eyes stayed on Temi. She could already see her husband's features in the boy. Chief looked serious now.
"Tomorrow, we'll go for a test," he said. "But no matter what, I won't reject the truth."
Victoria smiled weakly. "That's all I ask for." Temi looked around the big house. Everything felt strange, but something told him his life was about to change forever. In a few days, the truth would be out. Whether he liked it or not, he was already standing in the middle of a new beginning.
