The Man From China Episode Sixteen

The fact that Chin Cheng did not recognize Adanna bothered her so much. She was confused when she saw her boyfriend and instead of rushing to embrace her, he was asking people to tell him who she was. Everyone there was just looking at them. Adanna started to explain herself to Chin Cheng. It was so strange to her. She actually thought her reunion with Chin Cheng would be a beautiful thing but she did not understand what the man was saying. Has he lost his senses? Is there something wrong with his brain?

"What is wrong with you? What happened to you? Did you lose your memory? I don't need to introduce myself to you. I'm your girlfriend Adanna. Look at me Chin Cheng. I'm pregnant with your baby. You were with me here in the bush before you left to call your friends. You did not come back. Did anything happen to your brain? You should know me. I don't need to be introduced to you as if I'm a stranger. You even promised to marry me and take me to China. You said you will never leave me or my unborn child. You promised to build a house for me in this forest. Why have you suddenly forgotten about me?" Adanna asked tearfully. She was crying.

The villagers gathered to watch Adanna and Chin Cheng. They knew who Adanna was. Many of them also knew that Adanna was banished from the village because she got pregnant for the Chinese man and now, they were surprised that Chin Cheng said he does not know who she was. It was strange to them because they knew Adanna and Chin Cheng were deeply in love back in the days when the village was yet to be attacked by bandits.

The other Chinese people in the forest stepped forward to speak to Chin Cheng. They were with him when he fell and hit his head on a bulldozer and they understood that he must have suffered a head injury after the incident. They quickly knew what must have happened to him after they spoke to him and he said he did not recognize who they were. They were heartbroken. Some of them cried profusely. It was a challenging moment for everyone. The villagers were depressed, Adanna was depressed and the Chinese people in their midst were depressed. Many of them cried when they learned the truth of what had happened to Chin Cheng.

"Brother! It's us! Don't you know us anymore? We were always together. We worked together for many years at the construction site. You are a trained in engineer from China. This is not your first time of being in this village. You have lived here for many years. You have a woman and her name is Adanna. You were the one who got her pregnant. You should know her. You should know us. You are a strong man and we are sure you can remember all these things if you try. We are not happy to see you in this form." The Chinese workers said. Even Chin Cheng's boss came forward to speak to him.

"Chin Cheng, I'm your boss. Remember you were the one who told me about this forest. This is not your first time of coming into this forest. You should remember that you introduced me into this forest and you asked us to come here. I heard what happened to you. I came here to look for you with a whole helicopter. You should remember my face. I'm your boss. I'm not a stranger to you." The Chinese boss said.

They tried all they could but Chin Cheng did not recongise anyone one of them. He did not recognize the Chinese workers and he did not recognize Adanna. Instead, what he did was to tell everyone to get ready for them to attack the village and recapture the village from the hands of the bandits. He insisted that trying to make him remember people he did not know was a waste of time. He charged everyone to get ready for the attack.

"Please, stop trying to make me to remember who you are. I don't know you people. It is not by force to know people that I don't know. All these faces are new to me. I don't know the pregnant woman standing before me. I don't even know these other people calling themselves my colleagues. Please, you all mean a lot to me because of the battle at hand. But we don't have to keep wasting further time here trying to make me identify or recognize people I have never seen before. However, if any of you have a contribution towards the war, they should volunteer it. We want to recapture the village and we need all the help we can get."

Chin Cheng said like a military commander. Everyone in the forest heard him loud and clear. Everyone was moved and ready for action after his speech.

"We have a contribution to make. We have some weapons in our helicopter packed over there in this forest. If you permit us, we will go and bring the weapons we have. We have plenty of guns in our helicopter.

The guns will help you to defeat the bandits and take back the village. If you don't have guns, you will find it difficult to defeat them. Let us go to our helicopter and carry the guns. We will also join you to fight."

The Chinese boss said. Chin Cheng agreed and they went deeper into the forest to where the helicopter was parked.

When they got there, they started bringing out the guns. As they were removing the guns from the helicopter, Adanna smartly took Chin Cheng to the anthill where he had slept the night he came into the forest. As soon as he entered the anthill, he had flashes of lights in his brain and he remembered the place.

"I know this place. I have been here before." Chin Chen said. Within a few seconds, all the memories came back to him. He remembered Adanna and how she dragged him into the anthill that fateful night. He remembered how hyenas were chasing him. All his memories came back to him. He jumped and hugged Adanna. He started touching her and they did something sweet in the anthill.
