Moving To Italy Episode 12

Uju cannot be described as an expert driver. In fact, she was still learning and trying to master driving on different types of roads. Madam Philo's driver however has been driving for many years. In fact, he knows this particular bush path so well that he could close his eyes and drive on it. He knows spots where there are potholes and craters. He could dodge them without much effort. Uju was racing against a formidable foe and she was very much aware of this fact. This was why she was not taking any chances. Her speed was top of the mark and her way of handling the steering surprised everyone in the bus. Uju knew it was a matter of life and death, not just for her but for the ladies in the bus. So, she was prepared to give it everything it requires to make sure they escaped alive. But she knew it would be a difficult task.

"I know if they catch us, we will die. Therefore, it is better for us to have an accident than for us to die in the hands of Madam Philo." Uju said as she turned the steering and dodged a huge pothole she saw. In the process of dodging the pothole, she almost lost control of the bus, but she bounced back again. Severally, Madam Philo's bus driver tried to overtake her but she kept block him.

"You can't overtake me Oga! That is not going to happen!" Uju said when Madam Philo's driver made another attempt. Uju's heart was beating very fast, but she maintained her composure and continued to drive with a lot of courage. She was able to drive faster than Madam Philo's driver such that she gave them a lot of gap. Madam Philo became very angry with her driver.

"Why are you allowing that lady to drive better than you? You have been a driver on this road for a long time. I told you to overtake her but this is taking too much time. Drive fast and get close enough to the bus. Do this now or I will push you away from that steering and do the driving myself." Madam Philo said. She had totally lost it. She did not want Uju and the ladies to escape. She knew it would mean trouble for her line of business. She became rich through this business and she did not want Uju to spoil it for her.

"Do you know what I stand to lose if these ladies go back to Nigeria and expose me? Are you are aware that I could go to jail? Are you aware that all my hotels both in Nigerian abroad could be closed down? I don't want them to escape. I paid you to drive for me and you must not fail me this night. There will be huge consequences if you allow those ladies to escape and enter Nigeria before us." Madam Philo said. The driver felt the pressure. He doubled down on his speed. He matched the throttle of the bus and refused to remove his leg. Within one minute, the bus got very close to Uju's bus.

"Should I 'jam' the bus? I can't overtake them. The road is too narrow and it is impossible to overtake them. If I try too much we might enter the bush and 'jam' a tree. But if you permit me, I will 'jam' their bus. However, the consequence is that our own bus might tumble because we are on top speed." Madam Philo's driver said with a loud voice. He was talking very fast. He was scared.

"Don't 'jam' the bus. Do you want all of us to die? Just stay close to them. Everyone, bring out your guns and engage. Start throwing bullets to the bus and scatter everyone in it. Pour it for them like groundnuts. I don't want any of them to survive this journey. Look at your wrist watches, the time is already 6am and it is daybreak already. We can't allow them to make it to Nigeria. Start pouring them hot groundnuts. Let is start raining like water. Since they don't want us to catch them alive, we are going to unalive them." Madam Philo said. She was shouting at her boys. All of them obeyed her and started shooting at the Uju's bus.

"Everyone go down! Lie on the floor of the bus. Don't lift your head. Keep your head down. Madam Philo's boys are shooting. Keep your head down everyone." Uju shouted. She too slightly bent her head while managing to keep the bus steady on the narrow road.

As the bullets kept raining on the bus, Uju could see sparks of fire as iron hit iron. She was so scared but there was no option but to keep driving. When she lifted her head a little more high, she saw another bus coming towards them.

"There is a bus coming. I don't know if I can dodge the bus. The road is narrow and there is no way I can leave the road on this high speed. Hold on ladies, I'm about to enter the bush. If I don't enter the bush, we will 'jam' the bus and we will all die. Hold on to the seats. Hold on as

tightly as possible. I repeat, hold on to the seats. I'm about to enter the bush to dodge an oncoming bus." Uju shouted to the ladies. She could see the headlight of the oncoming bus. She reasoned that the bus must be going to Benin Republic with other set of ladies. It was exactly at that time of the morning that they entered the bush path the day Madam Philo deceived them that she was taking them to Italy.

"Is everyone ready? I'm entering the bush. I don't know what is in the bush. We might 'jam' a tree. You have to trust me and adhere to my instructions. Hold on tight to the seats in front of you." Uju said.

Meanwhile, Madam Philo's driver did not know that there was another bus approaching because Uju made sure she blocked him.

Madam Philo's driver was not seeing ahead. It was only Uju that saw the oncoming bus which was going to Benin Republic. All the three buses were on top speed. As soon as Uju got close to the oncoming bus, she branched into the bush without further warning. The oncoming bus passed her with speed and 'jammed' Madam Philo's bus. The two buses all tumbled and ended up in the bush. Uju's bus 'jammed' a tree and stopped in the middle of the forest.
