until we've uncovered something."

"Yeah," said. "Probably for the best."

"Anyway, I'll get on it. What time?" Erin asked.

"Eleven?"

"I'll let you know if there's any complications, but it should be doable," Erin said.

"Cool. Anything else I should know before you take off?"

"I also fed your pet," Erin said with a smirk and a heat in her gaze that suggested intense arousal, anger, or a combination of the two.

"Uh... my pet?" asked.

"You mean Jack?" Camille asked, having returned for a few empty dishes.

Erin glanced at her, then closed the distance between us, placed a hand on my chest, and slid it up to the back of my head. She pulled me down so that our lips met for a kiss and shoved her tongue in my mouth. I could taste the distinct flavor of feminine arousal on her lips and tongue, and it suddenly dawned on me what she was talking about.

Our lips parted, but we kept our faces close to each other. She looked up at me with those smokey eyes of hers and said, "I'll see you later?"

I swallowed hard and said, "Can't wait."

"Good," Erin said and stepped away. I glanced at Camille; she was turning back toward the kitchen, but I briefly caught a hint of an amused smirk

"I'm going to take John with me," Erin continued. "Tell Vikran we're ready whenever he is."

"Will do," I said. "Which John?"

"The uninjured one," Erin called out as she headed back toward the foyer to the elevators.

"Hey," I said as Camille was about to disappear through the door to the kitchen. "Where's Jack, anyway?"

She paused halfway through the door and said, "I saw him just a little bit ago. I think he's with the others in the living room. He's had a lot of attention this morning and has become quite the lady's man. Like his owner, I think."

I blushed a little at the implication. "Thanks," I said, returning from the room with my plate of food and a large mimosa.

I almost immediately ran into Vikram, who I let know that Erin was ready to go.

"Hey," he said, "Thanks for letting me crash here and everything."

"No sweat," I said. "Did you have a good time?"

He just grinned, and that was all I needed to know. Good for him. Venus was an incredible-looking woman; from everything I saw online, she seemed pretty cool. I hoped for him that it would go somewhere.

I told him to keep me posted if they found anything and to keep what they were doing a secret. After my encounter with Roger, my roster of people I could trust at YVP was pretty small-Vikram and Helen were about it... maybe Karl, but I doubted it.

Vikram gave me directions to where everyone else was, and then we parted ways. I walked no more than ten feet when Emily rounded the corner briskly.

"Hey," I said, "Where are you going?"

"Just somewhere else for a few minutes," Emily said, blushing furiously.

I looked past her toward the living room. "Did something happen?"

"No," my sister said. "I just needed to get out of there. They're talking about..."

"About..." I repeated when she didn't finish her thought.

"You know what? Go find out for yourself. I'm going to grab some bacon or something," Emily said, giving me a shy smile. She brushed past me and continued down the hall.

Curious, I headed back to the rest of the group. Jonah and Richie were off to one side talking while all the girls sat cross-legged on the floor, their heads gathered conspicuously close as they listened to Natasya. She grinned while speaking soft enough so listened to Natasya. She grinned while speaking soft enough so Jonah and Richie couldn't hear them, and she held her index fingers out in front of her as if she were describing the length of something. Then she caught sight of me as I approached, and the other ladies followed her mahogany gaze to stare at me. They broke out in a chorus of giggles, and I suddenly realized that the ladies gathered were comparing notes and telling stories. It was my tum to blush.

Despite my embarrassment, my heart swelled to see Natashya out in the open, conversing with some of her friends and laughing. She was a beautiful soul who brought light to whatever room she walked into, and I hated to see that hidden away.

"Afternoon, ladies," I said.

"Hi, Marcus!" Natashya said. "I heard you had fun last night."

My gaze dropped to one of the ladies sitting on the floor with Natashya. Megan, Richie's high school girlfriend, sat on the ground cross-legged, eating a mixture of fruit and yogurt. She stared up at me, all smiles and freckles. Sitting in her lap, purring and slow- blinking at me, was Jack. Seeing as the house was so big, I'd only seen him sporadically over the last few weeks. Most of the time, the only evidence that he existed was an empty bowl of cat food that either one of the ladies or I filled every morning. However, this moming, he seemed to have graced everyone with his presence.

I side-eyed Natashya and said, "Maybe we should change the topic to something more age-appropriate," I said.

"What?" Natashya asked. "Megan? Don't worry about her. She's not a child."

I simply shook my head, left the ladies to continue whatever they were discussing, and decided to join the boys. As far as I was concerned, if my mom and dad were letting Megan and Richie boink, then letting her overhear an adult conversation was the least of my concerns, even if it was at what was possibly my expense.

"What up, fellas?" I asked, plopping next to my little brother. I hadn't spent time with Richie last night and felt bad for it.

"Heard you had a good time last night," Richie sald, grinning at me just as much as his girlfriend had.

"Yeah. I'll bet you did," said. "That doesn't leave the apartment, okay? Last thing I need is mom and dad giving their twenty-eight- year-old son a lecture about sex."
