The Twin Pregnancy Episode Eighteen

Fredo waited at his driver's house until the police arrived at the scene to see the dead bodies and to commence investigations into what led to their deaths. When the police arrived, Fredo explained how he came to the apartment and saw everyone in it dead.

"This is shocking. There was no sign that armed robbers visited the apartment. I was even the one who broke into the apartment. From my observation of their bodies, there is no sign of any physical attack on them. This means something else must have caused their death other than an attack." Fredo said apprehensively.

"Our preliminary investigation in the apartment is showing that this might be a case of food poisoning. We saw that they ate corn yesterday and even the corn remnants are still on their dining table. Our forensic experts have taken a sample of the corn to the laboratory for testing. They will be back within a few moments. In the meantime, you are to remain with us here until we conclude all investigations into these deaths." The lead police officer said to Fredo.

"Really? Do you mean the corn they ate yesterday night was poisoned? I was the one who gave them the corn." Fredo informs the police officer.

"In that case, you have become our prime suspect, because, from all we have observed, it appears it was the corn that killed them. They went straight to bed after eating the corn. They were not attacked by armed robbers or assailants, which means the corn caused their deaths. However, we have to confirm this to be sure. The corn is being tested as I speak and the result would soon be out. But as our prime suspect, you will have to stay with us until we are sure it wasn't you who poisoned the corn." The police officer said to Fredo authoritatively.

"Does it mean I'm under arrest? Are you arresting me for a crime I did not commit? Was it wrong for me to have given my driver some corns? Was it wrong for me to have come here to check on them after not being able to reach them on the phone? What crime have I committed? Why are you talking to me as if I was the one who killed them?" Fredo asked. He was becoming agitated because of the way the police were handling the case.

"Not at all. You are not under arrest but you are the one helping us with investigations. You were the one we met here and you were the one who opened the door by force. The thing is that you have to help us with the Investigation and if we find out that it is truly the corn that killed them, then we will have no option but to get you arrested." The police officer tells Fredo. Fredo decided not to argue with the police officer since it appeared he was just doing his job. Also, it was clear that the police officer did not know that Fredo was the president's son. He did not want to even reveal his identity. To him, the police officer should just do his job and catch anyone who is responsible for the death of his driver and family.

"Alright, I'm fully ready to cooperate with you. Even if you want to arrest me, I'm fully ready." Fredo said. As he was talking, the police forensic expert arrived with the test result after visiting the police lab with the remnants of the corn the driver and his family ate.

"It has been confirmed! The corn was poisoned and this was why everyone who ate it died. Whoever gave the corn to the family should be arrested." The forensic police officer said when he entered the compound.

"You are under arrest for the suspected murder of Mr Ayuk and his family through poisoning. Whatever you say now will be used against you in the court of law." The police officer in charge tells Fredo as they ceased him and bundled him into a waiting police van.

"I didn't do anything wrong and I have no idea what you are talking about. There is no way I could have killed my own driver. I'm innocent! I think you should let me go. You should look for the person who did this because I'm certain I'm not the one." Fredo protested but all his protests fell on deaf ears as the policemen whisked him away. The dead bodies were taken by the police for further investigation.

Soon, news filtered into town that the son of the president had been arrested for poisoning his driver. The news was very embarrassing for Fredo's family and for the president in particular. Nene was invited by the president's family to explain exactly what happened on the day the corn was boiled.

"I have no idea what went wrong with the corn,

but what I know was that Fredo brought the corn in raw form and asked me to boil it for him. However, my aunt was in my house on that very day, so she was the one who helped to boil the corn for him. I later left the house and Fredo left before the corn was ready. This means he didn't get to eat the corn again. From a message he sent to me, he said he had asked his driver to take the corn home and eat with his family. The next thing I heard was that the driver and his family died after eating the corn due to poisoning. I know Fredo very well and I can at least vouch that he wouldn't even think of committing such a crime." Nene tells the president who was visibly worried about his son and the reputation of the presidential family.

"Alright! We believe you Nene. But what about the woman who boiled the corn? Has anyone seen her since then?" The president's chief security officer asked Nene.

"She left my house that same evening. She said she was going to come back, but we haven't seen her since then." Nene said.

"We need to find and arrest her immediately. She has a lot of questions to answer." The chief security officer said.
