It: Welcome to Derry Teaser Trailer: Bill Skarsgård’s Pennywise Returns

The official teaser trailer for It: Welcome to Derry has been released.

It: Welcome to Derry is the new HBO series developed by Andy Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti, and Jason Fuchs. It serves as a prequel to the It movies, 2017’s It and 2019’s It Chapter Two, which were both based on Stephen King’s 1986 novel.

What happens in the It: Welcome to Derry teaser trailer?

Coming from Warner Bros. Television, the It: Welcome to Derry teaser trailer takes place in 1962, which is about 26 years before the events of the first It movie. Bill Skarsgård reprises his role as Pennywise the Clown in the show.

“Set in the world of Stephen King’s It universe, It: Welcome to Derry is based on King’s It novel and expands the vision established by filmmaker Andy Muschietti in the feature films It and It Chapter Two,” the official logline reads.

The cast also includes Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, James Remar, Stephen Rider, Madeleine Stowe, and Rudy Mancuso.

Both Andy and Barbara Muschietti serve as executive producers on the show alongside Fuchs, Brad Caleb Kane, David Coatsworth, Bill Skarsgård, Shelley Meals, Roy Lee, and Dan Lin. Fuchs wrote the teleplay for the first episode and serves as a co-showrunner alongside Kane, while Andy Muschietti directs four episodes of the nine-episode season.

Andy Muschietti has also previously stated that they ideally want to make three seasons of It: Welcome to Derry, should it prove to be a hit. The second season will be set in 1935 and the third in 1908.

“It’s a story that’s based on the interludes of the book. The interludes are basically chapters that reflect Mike Hanlon’s research,” he said, via BloodyDisgusting. “They’re fragments of his research. For 27 years, it’s the guy trying to figure out what it is, what did it, who did it, who saw it, and all that stuff. So they talk about catastrophic events from the past, like the fire in the Black Spot…. the massacre of the Bradley Gang, a gang of bank robbers in the ’30s… and the explosion of the Kitchener Ironworks. Every time [Pennywise] comes out of hibernation, there is a catastrophic event that happens at the beginning of that cycle.”
