Tom Cruise & Ana de Armas To Star Together in Horror Movie Deeper

Ana de Armas appears to be attached to star in Deeper alongside Tom Cruise.

Deeper is a new horror movie that is being directed by Doug Liman. The project has been in the works for nearly a decade, as it was originally going to be made by MGM in 2016.

According to Deadline, de Armas is now joining Cruise in Deeper. “They’ve been photographed together recently, and I’m told they are doing the diving training required for the project,” the article notes.

What else do we know about Deeper?

Deadline reports that Deeper “follows an astronaut who encounters a terrifying force while on a deep dive into a never-before-explored trench.”

The budget is estimated to be around the $200 million range. The script was initially written by Max Landis, and multiple actors have been attached to star in it at one point or another, including Bradley Cooper and Idris Elba. The project has also had two separate directors, Kornél Mundruczó and Baltasar Kormákur, attached at some point.

While it’s not clear how much the script has changed over the years, Mission: Impossible’s Christopher McQuarrie is now said to be involved with the screenplay.

“While [Cruise], Liman and McQuarrie have plans to shoot a narrative film in space with cooperation from NASA and SpaceX, I’m told that Cruise would like to make [Deeper] next, and it’s not a question of if, but where he decides to make it,” Deadline’s article notes.

Cruise will soon be seen once again reprising his role as Ethan Hunt in Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning, which opens in United States theaters next weekend on May 23, 2025, from Paramount Pictures.

De Armas, meanwhile, is starring as Eve Macarro in the John Wick spin-off movie Ballerina, which also stars Keanu Reeves. It will be released in United States theaters on June 6, 2025, from Lionsgate.
