Don’t Expect Kingpin in Avengers: Doomsday or Spider-Man 4

Following Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday cast reveal, rumors about actors who did not make the first cut have been running rampant, with the latest one dealing with Vincent D’Onofrio‘s Kingpin. However, the Full Metal Jacket star has shared a disappointing update on the proposition, noting that an appearance from Wilson Fisk in upcoming MCU projects such as Avengers 5 and/or Spider-Man 4 seems highly unlikely at this point.

Daredevil’s Vincent D’Onofrio on Why Kingpin Won’t Be in Avengers: Doomsday

During his recent appearance on the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast, Vincent D’Onofrio opened up on the possibilities of taking Kingpin to the big screens via Avengers: Doomsday or Spider-Man: Brand New Day. He highlighted how such an idea is difficult to materialize, considering Marvel’s legal rights issues with the character.

“The only thing I know is not positive, it’s a very hard thing to do for Marvel to use my character. It’s a very hard thing to do because of ownership and stuff,” D’Onofrio stated. The actor explained why his take on Wilson Fisk cannot make the switch from television to movies in the MCU. “Right now, I’m only usable for television series, different kinds of series, whatever it is, but not even a one-off Fisk movie or anything like that.”

The actor further added, “It’s all caught up in rights and stuff. I don’t know when that would work out or if it would ever work out at all, actually.” Instead of dwelling on his much-discussed yet improbable appearance in Avengers: Doomsday or Spider-Man 4, D’Onofrio stated that he is currently focussing on reprising his role of Kingpin in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2. While the follow-up edition to the ongoing Disney+ series has been greenlit, it has yet to receive an official release date.
