Greta Gerwig‘s upcoming Chronicles of Narnia movie may be adding a major name to its cast according to a new report from Nexus Point News.
Who might Meryl Streep be in Greta Gerwig’s Narnia movies?
According to Nexus Point New’s latest report, three-time Oscar winner Meryl Streep has been offered the role of Aslan, the talking lion and King of Beasts throughout all of Narnia. The report notes that Aslan will be female in the upcoming movie, but doesn’t offer up any other information as to what fans might expect.
Streep is a legend in the acting world, having won three Oscars across 21 nominations, four Emmy Awards, nine Golden Globes, and many more. She’s starred in films like Sophie’s Choice, Doubt, The Post, The Devil Wars Prada, Mamma Mia!, and more. Most recently, she is a starring member of Hulu’s mystery comedy drama Only Murders in the Building.
Plot details for Gerwig’s first Narnia remain under wraps at this time. No casting has been officially announced. However, Casino Royale’s Daniel Craig has received an offer to join the cast that he has not publicly accepted or passed on yet. It is unclear who he would play in the movie. Charli XCX is also in talks for the role of the White Witch.
In addition to Barbie, Gerwig co-directed 2008’s Nights and Weekends with Joe Swanberg before she then went on to helm 2017’s Lady Bird and 2019’s Little Women. She has also worked on the scripts for movies like 2012’s Frances Ha, 2015’s Mistress America, and more.
Gerwig’s Narnia will get a two-week IMAX global run in November 2026. The movie will then come to Netflix on Christmas 2026.
