Description for 28 Years Later’s CinemaCon trailer revealed
Boyle revealed a new trailer for his upcoming feature 28 Years Later during an appearance at CinemaCon, an annual industry event held at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Monday. Boyle and Alex Garland, respectively the director and screenwriter of 2002’s 28 Days Later, have returned for 28 Years Later, with the former helming the project and Garland credited for its screenplay. Juan Carlos Fresnadillo directed 2007’s 28 Weeks Later from a script he penned alongside Rowan Joffé, Enrique López Lavigne, and Jesus Olmo.
A significant portion of the scenes shown in the trailer are set on and around an island and close to water. Splash pages appearing throughout the trailer read, “How Much Time…Do We…Have Left?” (via ScreenRant)
The trailer begins with a scene focusing on three individuals in military gear as a zombie approaches them. The scene shifts to an island as the voice-over mentions, “many people dead… infected and non-infected alike” and “once you walk onto that mainland, there’s no rescue.” Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s Jamie appears along with a young boy, running away from a cluster of zombies. The people in military gear reappear. However, unlike the last time, they are no longer in a dark room but are escaping zombies.
Boyle also disclosed that 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple was complete. However, the project after that still needed to be financed.
Besides Taylor-Johnson, 28 Years Later stars Jodie Comer as Isla, Ralph Fiennes as Dr. Kelson, and Jack O’Connell. The movie debuts in U.S. theaters on June 20, 2025.
