The Last of Us Season 2’s New Smarter Infected Type Detailed by Creator
Viewers are in for a treat this April as The Last of Us Season 2 is set to introduce a new smarter infected type, according to creator Neil Druckmann.
The second season of HBO’s post-apocalyptic drama series will premiere on April 13, 2025, over two years after the successful first season debuted. Following Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey’s comments about the “painful” Season 2 arc, showrunner Craig Mazin and The Last Of Us creator Druckmann provided some details about the new infected type.
What do we know about The Last of Us Season 2’s new infected type?
Mazin warned viewers to “buckle up,” as Season 2 is set to introduce “stalkers” and more advanced members of the infected.
“All I’ll say is that for the people who want to see more of the infected… Buckle up!” Mazin told Empire. Druckmann then chimed in, saying: “You get to see a different evolution of this infection. It’s kept certain parts of their brain alive, so they are smarter. They coordinate and hide and do things that we’ve never seen any other infected do on this show.”
The Last of Us chronicles the unexpected bond between strangers Joel (Pascal) and Ellie (Ramsey) as they fight for survival in a world now inhabited by fungal-infected creatures. In addition to Pascal and Ramsey, Season 2 will also see the return of Gabriel Luna as Joel’s younger brother Tommy and Rutina Wesley as Maria.
The Season 1 cast members will be joined by The Last of Us newcomers Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Young Mazino as Jesse, Isabela Merced as Dina, Danny Ramirez as Manny, Ariela Barer as Mel, Tati Gabrielle as Nora, Jeffrey Wright as Isaac Dixon, and Catherine O’Hara in a still-undisclosed role.
Rounding out the Season 2 cast are Alanna Ubach (Euphoria), Ben Ahlers (The Gilded Age), Joe Pantoliano (The Sopranos), Hettienne Park (Hannibal), Robert John Burke (Gossip Girl), and Noah Lamanna (Star Trek: Strange New Worlds).
