Anthony Mackie Wants Captain America 5 to Have X-Men Villains

Anthony Mackie is all set to make his big-screen debut as Sam Wilson’s rendition of Captain America in Captain America: Brave New World. Since his first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the character has taken on a repository of supervillains. In Brave New World, he faces off against multiple antagonists. As the franchise continues to expand, Mackie already has some plans about what character he wants Wilson to fight next, and it’s none other than the X-Men villain, Juggernaut.

Anthony Mackie wants X-Men villains like Juggernaut in Captain America 5

Mackie said in a recent interview that he wants to see Captain America take on Juggernaut in a project after Brave New World. This likely includes a potential Captain America 5. Notably, Aaron W. Reed portrays a Juggernaut variant in the MCU feature Deadpool & Wolverine (2024). Before that, Ryan Reynolds voiced another version of the character in Deadpool 2 (2018) and Vinnie Jones essayed the role in 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand.

“I would really like to get some of those X-Men villains,” Mackie said in an interview with ComicBook. “I want the whole Juggernaut crew, some of those. I feel like those would be a lot of fun, simply because of the crazy nature of the combat scenes. Not because they’re the best villains, but I feel like their powers — head-to-head with my power — that would be an interesting fight,” he added.

As an untitled X-Men movie is currently in development at Marvel Studios, this is definitely within the realm of possibilities. Notably, it appears that Captain America will take on at least three different villains in Brave New World: Giancarlo Esposito’s Sidewinder, Tim Blake Nelson’s Samuel Sterns / the Leader, and Harrison Ford’s President Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross / Red Hulk.

Juggernaut’s birth name in the comics is Cain Marko, and he is the step-brother of Professor Charles Xavier. However, unlike Xavier, Marko is not a mutant. Instead, the source of his power is a crimson gem, which turned him into the avatar of the stone’s original owner, a deity named Cyttorak.
