Don’t Expect Captain America 4’s Sam Wilson To Take Super Serum
Anthony Mackie recently confirmed that his version of Captain America, Sam Wilson, will not take the Super Soldier Serum in Captain America: Brave New World. He stated that Sam remains a regular person, emphasizing his role as “every man’s Captain America.” Without enhanced abilities, Sam takes on the mantle under different circumstances than Steve Rogers, facing greater risks in his new role.
Anthony Mackie says his Captain America won’t take the Super soldier serum
During an interaction with ComicBook, Anthony Mackie discussed why his Captain America won’t take the Super Soldier Serum. “Yeah, I don’t think he will,” Mackie said. “I think if you look at Sam, Sam is every man’s Captain America.” He further explained, “The idea of him just being a regular guy that’s been thrust into this position of leadership is something that we all can identify with, something that we all can relate to.”
Mackie emphasized that taking the serum would change Sam’s identity, adding, “I think it’s important for him not to get the serum, because then that takes him out of the realm of the possibility of any of us being Captain America.”
Sam Wilson is a different Captain America from Steve Rogers because he lacks the Super Soldier Serum. Captain America: Brave New World is his first solo film as the new Captain America. He leads in a world very different from the one Steve protected. Unlike Steve, Sam has no superhuman abilities. Instead, he relies on his training, skill, and technology, including his flight suit.
In an interview with GamesRadar+, Mackie also discussed Marvel’s signature storytelling, referencing the Avengers: Endgame portals scene as an example of how the studio creates emotional cinematic moments.
“I feel like the best moment of it in cinematic history is the moment when Steve Rogers walks out on a cliff, we’ve all been blipped away, and you see him facing Thanos’s army,” Mackie said. “That emotional climax? Marvel has made it a science. And I feel like this movie does it extremely well.”
Captain America: Brave New World stars Mackie as Sam Wilson, alongside Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres and Harrison Ford as President Ross, also known as the Red Hulk.
The film releases in theaters on February 14, 2025.
