Police arrest middle-aged man for allegedly raping minor in Edo

The Edo State Police Command has arrested a middle-aged man for allegedly raping a 15-year-old minor in the state.

It was reported that the suspect identified as Gospel Victor, allegedly committed the offence at Ewohimi community in Esan South East LGA.

The Public Relations Officer of the Command, Mose Yamu, who confirmed this to newsmen in Benin City, said the incident happened on January 13, 2025.

Yamu said the incident was reported to the police and the suspect was promptly arrested.

He added that the suspect who is currently in police custody, would be charged to court.

It was gathered that the suspect allegedly lured the minor into his room and forcefully had canal knowledge of her without her consent.

It was also gathered that the shouts of the victim attracted neighbours, who discovered that she was being raped by the suspect.

It was further learnt that the minor sustained injuries in her private part as a result of the rape and was taken to the hospital for treatment by the police.
