Masters of the Universe Movie Casts Jared Leto as Skeletor
The live-action Masters of the Universe movie has cast Jared Leto as Skeletor.
It was previously announced that Nicholas Galitzine, known for starring in 2024’s The Idea of You, will play He-Man in a live-action Masters of the Universe movie being developed by Amazon MGM Studios. The movie is scheduled to be released in 2026.
Now, per The Hollywood Reporter, Leto has been cast in the Masters of the Universe as Skeletor.

Along with Galitzine and Leto, the cast of Masters of the Universe includes Camila Mendes as Teela, Idris Elba as Duncan/Man-at-Arms, and Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sam C. Wilson has also been tapped to play Trap Jaw in the film while Hafthor Bjornsson has been cast as Tri-Klops.
“Plot details are being kept under wraps, but the concept centers on the character of Prince Adam of Eternia who, thanks to his Power Sword, turns into the muscular He-Man and is imbued with superhuman strength and abilities,” The Hollywood Reporter’s article notes. With his assortment of allies, he defends the planet from the evil Skeletor and his armies.”
The movie, inspired by the toy brand that was originally introduced in the 1980s, is being directed by Travis Knight. Knight’s previous filmography includes 2016’s Kubo and the Two Strings and 2018’s Bumblebee, while he’s additionally working on a stop-motion movie for Laika titled Wildwood, which will be released in 2025.
Jeff Sneider’s The InSneider initially reported that Leto had been offered the Skeletor role in September 2024.
The screenplay for Masters of the Universe was written by Chris Butler, while initial drafts came from David Callaham, Aaron Nee, and Adam Nee. Escape Artists and Mattel Films produce the movie.
Masters of the Universe will be released in theaters worldwide on June 5, 2026.
