Kraven the Hunter: Sony’s Spider-Man Universe Movie Off to Weak Start at the Box Office
Kraven the Hunter may have a worse opening weekend at the domestic box office than Madame Web.
Kraven the Hunter is now playing in United States theaters courtesy of Sony Pictures. Potentially the last film to be set within Sony’s Spider-man Universe, Kraven the Hunter is directed by J. C. Chandor and stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson as the titular character.
How much did Kraven the Hunter make at the box office from Thursday previews?
Per Variety, Kraven the Hunter is off to a weak start at the domestic box office as it made $2 million in Thursday previews.
The movie is now projected to make between $13 to $15 during its opening three-day weekend. The movie, according to Variety, had a budget of around $110 million, due in part to the COVID-19 pandemic and the 2023 Hollywood strikes.
Should the box office opening weekend projections for Kraven the Hunter prove to be accurate, it would be the lowest opening weekend for any of the Sony Spider-Man Universe movies. Madame Web, in comparison, made $15.3 during its opening three-day weekend earlier this year, while 2022’s Morbius managed to pull in $39 million.
The synopsis for Kraven the Hunter reads, “Kraven the Hunter is the visceral, action-packed origin story of how and why one of Marvel’s most iconic villains came to be. Aaron Taylor-Johnson plays Kraven, a man whose complex relationship with his ruthless father, Nikolai Kravinoff (Russell Crowe), starts him down a path of vengeance with brutal consequences, motivating him to become not only the greatest hunter in the world, but also one of its most feared. “
With a screenplay written by Richard Wenk, Art Marcum, and Matt Holloway, Kraven the Hunter also stars Ariana DeBose as Calypso, Fred Hechinger as Dmitri Smerdyakov, Alessandro Nivola as Rhino, and Christopher Abbott as the Foreigner.
