Chris Evans: Returning as Captain America Would Be a 'Tall Order'
Rumors of Chris Evans returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Captain America have been swirling for ages, but in a recent interview, the actor seemed to suggest that would not be happening unless the stars align.
During a recent interview, Evans was asked about rumors that Evans would be returning, perhaps in a story that sees Captain America returning the Infinity Stones. Evans recognized fans want to see him back, but said coming back would be a “tall order.”
“That seems to be something people would like to see,” Evans told ComicBook. “I don’t want to disappoint anybody, but it’s tough to… It was such a good run and I’m so happy with it. It’s so precious to me. It would have to be perfect. It just would be scary to rattle something that is, again, so dear to me. That role means so much to me. So, to revisit it, it would be a tall order.”
Despite Evans sounding fairly certain about not returning, the door remains open for the possibility. With the inclusion of the multiverse in various MCU stories now, it’s not impossible to suggest a variant of Captain America could appear.
While Evans’ Steve Rogers has been mentioned in various entries in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since Avengers: Endgame, we haven’t seen the character since he returned from delivering the Infinity Stones an infinitely older man, who seemed content with no longer being the superhero everyone expected him to be. Since then, Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) has seemingly taken up the mantle of Captain America and will star in the fourth entry in the franchise.
