“Don’t you think it’s inappropriate to touch my PA like that, Mr. Fredrik?”Mr. Kings said as he let go of Ana and stood beside her, his hands in his pockets, eyes locked on Mr. Fredrik.
“I’m sorry, Mr. Kings. I was just being friendly,” Mr. Fredrik replied, glancing at Ana, who was still in a daze, confused about what had just happened.
“I’ll take my leave then,”Mr. Fredrik added. “See you around, Miss Evans,” he said softly, his gaze lingering on her.
Ana nodded with a polite smile. As Mr. Fredrik walked away, Mr. Kings took Ana’s hand and dragged her outside. Ana looked down at their joined hands, surprised and confused. What is happening?__she wondered as they stepped out of the restaurant.
“Charlie!” a voice called from behind them as they approached the parking lot.
They both stopped. Mr. Kings closed his eyes and took a deep breath — he already knew who it was. Ana didn’t dare turn around. She tried to pull her hand from his grip, but he tightened it, refusing to let go.
“So you refused to have lunch with me so you could be with her?” Fatima asked as she came up behind them, her eyes falling on their intertwined hands. She bit her lip in anger.
Still in shock from Sam’s words, seeing Charlie wrap his arms around Ana had stunned her. She’d waited outside, trying not to cause a scene — but now, she couldn’t hold it in.
“Why are you here?” Mr. Kings asked coldly, his gaze locked on her.
Fatima sighed, overwhelmed with frustration. Her narrowed eyes shifted to Ana — envy, jealousy, and bitterness swimming in them.
Ana stared back, wanting to run from it all, but Mr. Kings’s grip stayed tight on her hand, making escape impossible.
“We were supposed to meet today. I booked an appointment,” Fatima said, her voice strained.
Mr. Kings raised an eyebrow. “You’re not part of my work. Did you forget that?”His tone was distant and cold as he turned and continued walking to the car.
“You’re just going to leave like that?” Fatima shouted as Mr. Kings opened the car door for Ana and helped her in. Fatima watched, her heart clenching in anger and pain.
She stood frozen, exhausted, and defeated. She didn’t go after him.
Fatima clenched her handbag tightly, her thoughts spiraling into darkness. The only thing she wanted was Charlie Kings — and she wasn’t going to lose him to anyone.
“Ahhhhhhh!” she screamed, stomping her foot on the ground.
“Are you okay, ma’am?” a security guard asked.
She shot him a glare. “Do I look like I am? Leave me alone!”she snapped before she walked to her car..
✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
—
Inside the car, Ana looked out the window, too many questions running through her head. The silence in the car was intense; she couldn’t utter a single word. What was she going to say anyway?
Mr. Kings was also buried in his phone. Only their breathing and the soft background music could be heard.
Ana sighed softly as her phone rang, breaking the silence. She took it out and stared at the caller ID. Her hands clenched around the phone, and her expression suddenly went blank when she saw Milton’s name on the screen.
Mr. Kings’s eyes snapped to her, and he raised an eyebrow. “Why don’t you just switch off your phone if you don’t want to answer?” he said, his gaze still on her. Ana swallowed and looked down at the phone, unsure if she should answer or ignore it.
Her eyes flickered toward Mr. Kings before she lifted the phone to her ear and answered.
“Hello,” her voice came out a little shaky before she cleared her throat.
Mr. Kings frowned slightly at the tone of her voice.
“Ana, are you okay?” Milton’s voice came through the phone. Ana gulped. How dare he? She gripped the phone tighter and nodded instinctively—forgetting he couldn’t see her.
Mr. Kings watched her face and saw a frown slowly form.
“Can we… talk later? I’m busy,” Ana whispered, then quickly ended the call.
She put her phone down and turned back to the window, just as the driver parked the car in front of E.K.
They both stepped out. Mr. Kings slipped his hands into his pockets and walked behind her. They entered the elevator and headed to their offices.
Ana put her things down, opened a bottle of water, and took a sip. She closed her eyes, feeling a headache coming on. With a sigh, she massaged her forehead.
Meanwhile, in his office, Mr. Kings watched her through the glass, his gaze intense, wondering what had just happened. She suddenly looked… sad.
He shook his head. He knew she wasn’t his business—so why was he worried?
At that moment, his phone rang. He looked at the screen, then stared at the caller ID,. What does she want now? he wondered before answering the call.
“Hello?”
Fatima’s voice came through, trembling.
“Charlie, can you hear me?”
He frowned at how shaky her voice sounded.
“Please help me, I’m in pain. I… I…” she paused, her voice breaking again.
Mr. Kings gripped the phone tightly, his chest tightening with concern.
“What’s wrong?” he asked, his voice low but alert.
Fatima groaned on the other end.
“Something happened. I’m in a lot of pain. Please, can you come to my house?” she cried out.
Mr. Kings closed his eyes briefly, exhaling. Without saying a word, he grabbed his coat and headed out of the office.
Ana,in her office looked up and watched him leave, confusion written across her face. She couldn’t help but wonder what was going on.
