✨Inside Ana’s office✨

“I… you’re here. Do you need anything?” Ana asked after an awkward moment. She couldn’t lift her head to look at her boss, but one thing she knew: she wasn’t feeling bad for saying all those things.

“Mr. Kings,” Ana called softly and lifted her head to look at him. Her eyes locked with his, and as always, his eyes were intense and cold. “I really didn’t mean all of that,” she explained. Mr. Kings raised an eyebrow.

“You don’t have to lie to save yourself,” Mr. Kings started, his eyes on her. She found herself swallowing in fear; the man was just cold and arrogant when he wanted to be. “It looks like you’re getting too comfortable here, Miss Evans. And the way you’re starting to behave is just going to piss me off,” Mr. Kings’s cold voice said. She stared at him, her eyes searching for something that would prove he was joking, but there was none. Her lips pulled into a thin line as she nodded.

“I have to get back to work,” her voice came out in a thin whisper. Mr. Kings stared at her as she walked to her chair and settled down. Ana could feel his eyes on her, but she didn’t dare lift her head to look at him. She kept her eyes on the laptop.

Mr. Kings cleared his throat and walked to the door. He closed it and walked to his office, his mind running wild. He didn’t understand what was going on with him. Why was he being soft? She was busy talking and not doing her job; that should piss him off, right?

“F+k Annabella,” he cursed, slamming his fist on the table, making everything bounce and scatter all over. He pulled off his glasses and loosened his tie. His mind kept thinking about her. What was wrong with her sudden behavior? She used to not give him trouble, but now it looked like she just lived to torture him.

He heard someone laughing. His head snapped to the side as he came into view with Alison, who had his body sprawled on the couch, with a silly smirk on his face.

“What are you doing here?” Mr. Kings asked, standing straight. Ali chuckled,

“You look stressed.” He said, his brows wiggling with curiosity. “Is Ana the one who pissed you off?” Alison added.

“I don’t think you need to interfere in this,” Mr. Kings’s voice came out stern. Ali nodded and ran his hand through his brown silk hair.

“I’m just being concerned,” Alison replied, rising to his feet. He put his hands inside his pockets with a sigh. He tilted his head to the side to look at Mr. Kings.

“Sometimes, you need to loosen up.” Mr. Kings raised an eyebrow, and Ali chuckled. “You don’t have to be a jerk all the time, you know that.”

“Is that why you’re in my office?” Mr. Kings asked as he walked to the office’s glass balcony. He stood tall, looking outside at the beautiful view of the city. He liked that spot; it made him feel calm. Alison walked closer and stood beside him, both their hands in their pockets, their gaze on the tall building far away from where they were.

“That’s the best penthouse here in Manhattan ,” Alison started.

“It’s worth billions of dollars,” Mr. Kings muttered softly, his gaze still fixed on the view. “Are you still interested in it?” Ali asked. Mr. Kings let out a deep, exhausted sigh.

“If I were to buy that, I’d only buy it for my wife, and only if she was someone worth it.” Alison chuckled, amused.

“You have Fatima.” Mr. Kings remained quiet, asking himself if that woman was worth it, after they had just been dating for their family’s sake, with no love between them.

“She’s not worth it,” he said.

Alison smiled and nodded.

Lunchtime, Ana sat beside Joyce as they ate their lunch. She kept sighing here and there, and Joyce observed her, noticing that she was busy fighting something. Joyce slapped her hand to get her attention. “What’s going on, madam?” Joyce asked, glaring at her. Ana sighed, putting down the juice she was holding.

“Baby girl,” Joyce snapped her fingers in front of Ana. Ana’s gaze lifted, and she stared at Joyce, her lips pouting. She let out another sigh. Joyce put her hands together, leaning closer. “Okay, what happened in that office that made you behave like this?” Joyce asked, her brow furrowed.

“He didn’t say anything, and that’s just getting me anxious,” Ana said. Joyce’s eyes widened in surprise. “Mr. Kings doesn’t take insults lightly, but today he just left without saying anything, and that’s not a good sign.”

“I don’t think he’s that mad,” Joyce said reassuringly, squeezing her hand. Ana shook her head, her hands going to her hair as she massaged it softly. “First, I came late, and I insulted him. You think he’d let it slide?” Ana asked, her voice filled with regret.

Joyce rolled her eyes, leaning back into her seat. Her long red nails tucked the stray hair behind her ear. “Do you think he’ll fire you?” she asked. Ana looked at her with sad, puppy-like eyes. Joyce laughed softly. “Even if he fires you, you won’t care, right? After all, you hate your boss.”

Ana remained quiet for a bit. Joyce was right, but if she lost her job, what would she do? The company paid her too much money; if she left, she wouldn’t find another place like that. “I don’t want to lose my job,” she said honestly.

“Yeah, right? So try to tolerate everything,” Joyce said, taking a sip of her drink. “But on a serious note, why do you keep working with someone you don’t like?”

“He’s an arrogant bastard and a complete jerk in this world, but he pays large amounts of money. So who would leave that kind of job?” Ana replied, her mood loosening up. Joyce let out a laugh. “You think he’s a jerk; you just see him like that,” she said. Ana rolled her eyes with a scoff. “You’re his friend, so…” she shrugged, saying that.
