The Arranged Marriage Episode 6

Temidayo stood like a female soldier outside Ikenna's family house. She looked at the gate for a long time. She didn't know what was waiting for her inside the compound, but she had made up her mind that she was ready for anything. She was wearing a nice, flowing gown. Under her flowing gown, she wore black short nicker and a tight top. She has heard enough stories about Nnenna and her madness. If a fight broke out today, she was not going to be caught off guard. She will just flip the gown and do the needful.

"I'm not scared of her. I'm not leaving Ikenna for her. I will show her the difference between egbe and egbe." Temidayo said. She opened the gate and walked in. Ikenna was waiting at the door and welcomed her with a smile.

"My love! My queen! Welcome. Come in." Ikenna said.

The house was quiet when Temidayo entered. She looked around and noticed that no aroma was coming from the kitchen.

"I thought you said I should come for dinner?" Temidayo asked. Ikenna scratched his head and looked away in shame.

"I didn't know no one cooked. Please help me. Just enter the kitchen and make something nice. My mother is very hungry. Nnena has starved her since morning." Ikenna said. Temidayo frowned, but she was happy to help.

"Okay. I'll make something really nice. But I hope this won't end in drama." She went into the kitchen and tied a wrapper around her waist. She began washing the rice and preparing tomatoes.

Three hours later, the smell of well-cooked jollof rice filled the entire house. The tomatoes had fried well, the rice was soft and absolutely tasty. The meat was seasoned perfectly. Even Ikenna's mother came into the kitchen to peep into the pot.

"My daughter-in-law, this your hand is too good. This is the kind of woman my son needs. Not that she-goat that calls herself Nnenna." Ikenna's mother said happily. Temidayo smiled. She was dishing out the rice when Nnenna suddenly appeared at the door like a ghost. She didn't say a word. She walked in, lifted the whole pot of jollof rice, and carried it outside.

"What are you doing?" Temidayo asked her. Nnenna turned sharply and hissed as if Ternidayo was a child.

"As long as I am the wife in this house, I decide who eats and who goes hungry. I don't care who cooked the food. I am taking it to my room. No one will touch it." Nnena said angrily.

"Are you serious?" Temidayo asked. She was shocked. But Nnenna didn't respond. She carried the hot pot and marched straight to her room like a queen who has just won a battle. Temidayo stood in silence for a few seconds. Then she removed the gown she was wearing, revealing her shorts.

"I've been looking for a reason to deal with this woman. I came prepared for battle. That is even why I'm wearing short nicker. Let me go and pound her like 'akpu." Temidayo said. She stormed into Nnenna's room without knocking. Nnenna was already seated on the bed with the pot in front of her. She was eating the rice directly from the pot.

"Leave this room." Nnenna said without even looking up. Temidayo didn't respond. She walked straight to the bed, snatched the pot from Nnenna, and moved it to the corner.

"You must be very foolish. You think I'm one of those old women you used to beat? You picked the wrong person today." Temidayo stood firm and looked directly at her.

"You are lucky I even cooked in this house. You are nothing but a troublemaker. Why did you seize the whole pot? Are you normal? You dey ment?" Temidayo shouted. Nnenna slapped her hard across the face. Temidayo staggered back for a second. The slap was very harsh. It is the type that makes you to see red stars.

With anger in her heart, Temidayo opened the pot and slammed it on Nnenna's head. The hot Jollof rice poured all over her. Nnenna screamed like a wild animal and started running around the room with the pot stuck on her head.

"Jesus! My body! My face!" She cried. Temidayo stood by the wall, watching her.

"Next time, don't try it with me." Temidayo warned.

The noise in the room brought Ikenna and his mother rushing in. Ikenna stood there in shock as he saw Nnenna running up and down with rice on her body. The pot was still hanging on her head.

"Somebody should help me! My head is burning!" she screamed. Temidayo leaned on the wall, folding her arms.

"If you ever touch my food again, I'll fry you like plantain." Temidayo said. Ikenna wanted to say something but didn't know how to enter the drama. His mother, however, was laughing. She bent over and laughed like someone who had just won a jackpot.

"Temidayo, you have shown her small pepper today! I have been waiting for the day someone will put her in her place. You did not disappoint me. That pot on her head fits her perfectly. That's her crown as the queen of madness. Let her wear it well." Ikenna's mother said. Nnenna was now on the floor, crying. Her wrapper had fallen off, and she was half-covered in food. She looked defeated. Temidayo walked out of the room with her head high.

"This is my last warning to you. Next time will be worse." Temidayo said. Ikenna's mother followed Temidayo out, still laughing.

"You have removed shame from my eyes today. That girl has been tormenting me in this house. Can you imagine she locked me in the toilet today? She said I was hiding Ikenna. If not for you, I don't know how this house would have been. You are the one I prayed for. You are the one my son should marry." Ikenna's mother said as she hugged Temidayo tightly. Temidayo smiled and wiped her face with the edge of her wrapper.

"Don't worry, Mama. I'm not afraid of her. I came here prepared." Temidayo responded.

Ikenna's mother turned to her son and said:

"Now you have seen with your own eyes. This is the woman you should marry. The one with sense and courage. Not that empty vessel making noise up and down. Temidayo has shown today that she has a lion's heart. She has done what I've been praying for all these weeks."
