The Dying Billionaire Episode 9

The courtroom was packed. Reporters, lawyers, police officers, and even curious citizens filled every corner of the place. Ebube and Dike sat in the accused box, looking worn out. They were facing serious charges which include murder, kidnapping, and illegal possession of firearms. The evidence against them was heavy. Pamela had testified. The police brought photos, recorded calls, and even the golden necklace she used to bribe the guard. More shocking was the discovery of the lawyer's dead body in their compound. Everything pointed to them. Their lawyer tried to argue, but the judge wasn't moved. He said the facts spoke for themselves.

After days of hearing, the judge gave his verdict. He said, "The court finds the first and second defendants guilty of murder, kidnapping, and unlawful possession of firearms." There was a heavy silence. The judge continued, "You are hereby sentenced to death by hanging. May God have mercy on your souls." Dike looked at his mother. He didn't say a word. Ebube closed her eyes and turned her face. Police officers came and led them away. Cameras clicked as they walked out. The courtroom remained silent. Many people were shocked that a mother and son could go this far.

Outside the court, police officers paraded them before the press. Cameras and microphones were everywhere. Reporters were throwing questions at Dike. One of them asked, "Do you have anything to say before you're taken back to prison?" Dike looked up slowly and replied, "I want the world to hear this. My life was destroyed before I was even born. My mother cheated on my father and gave birth to me. She made me live a lie. When the truth came out, my whole life collapsed. If only she had been faithful, we wouldn't be here today."

He continued, "When my father found out I wasn't his son, he disowned me. He didn't want anything to do with me again. That was the beginning of this problem. My mother planned everything. She brought the guns. She killed my father. She made me help her kidnap Pamela and the lawyer. At first, I didn't know how serious it was. But when things went out of control, it was too late. I couldn't escape anymore. I want to tell all women out there, cheating destroys families. My mother destroyed mine. She has destroyed my future."

The reporters were shocked by Dike's words. One of them asked, "Are you saying you regret everything?" Dike nodded. "Yes. I regret everything. I regret trusting my mother. I regret being part of her evil plan. But most of all, I regret being born through cheating. I wish I had a different mother. Maybe I would have had a better life." The reporters kept asking more questions, but the police pushed them back. "That's enough," one officer shouted. They put Ebube and Dike in a prison van and drove them to the prison where they would stay until their execution day.

Back in the prison, Dike was kept in a separate cell from his mother. He didn't want to see her. He stayed alone, refusing to eat or talk to anyone. All he did was sit on the cold floor and think. He kept remembering his father's face the day he said, "You are not my son." That voice kept ringing in his ears. It was painful. He never imagined his life would end like this. A few months ago, he was still living in his father's mansion, driving expensive cars and calling himself the son of a billionaire.

Meanwhile, Ebube was restless in her cell. She tried to talk to one of the prison officers. "Please," she said, "help me talk to my son. I want to explain things to him." The officer looked at her with disgust. "Explain what? That you lied to your husband, raised another man's child as his own, killed your husband, and destroyed your son's life? What is there to explain?" The woman kept quiet. She knew nobody wanted to hear her side anymore. The world had judged her already. She was now seen as a murderer and a liar..

Pamela was at home, recovering. Her baby was safe. The doctors said everything looked fine. She sat in the sitting room and watched the news. The headline was bold: "Ebube and Dike Sentenced to Death." She smiled sadly. She said to herself, "Chief, I hope you can see this. Justice has been served." She touched her stomach and whispered, "Don't worry, my baby. You will be born into a better life. Your father wanted you. He planned for you. And I will do everything to make sure you grow up proud." Her eyes stayed on the TV as Dike's interview replayed.

Many people reacted to the news. Social media was flooded with comments. Some people blamed Ebube. Others blamed Dike. Some blamed both. But majority of the people supported the court's decision. They said it would serve as a lesson to others. One Facebook user wrote, "This is what happens when you try to play god. Ebube thought she was smart. Look at her now." Another user said, "So sad for Dike, but he should have reported his mother instead of helping her." The story was the talk of the town. Nobody believed the rich Omenka family would end this way.
