The Resignation Letter Episode Two
The morning after Mezie submitted the resignation letter, Angella woke up feeling exhausted. She had stayed late at the office the previous night, finalizing major projects and contracts. Her head was pounding like the engine of a trailer, and her body felt weak from lack of sleep. She looked at the clock and realized she was running late. She quickly got dressed, kissed Mezie and the children goodbye, and rushed out of the house.
As she drove to work, Angela's mind was apprehensive because she had a lot to do that day. She has a busy day ahead of her. She has many meetings, reports, and deadlines. She didn't have time to think about anything else. When she arrived at the company's gate, she waved at the security guards, expecting them to let her in as usual. But this time, something was different.
One of the guards stepped forward and stopped her. "Good morning, ma'am," he said politely but firmly.
"Good morning," Angela replied, confused. "Is there a problem?"
The guard looked at her intently and then spilled the beans. "Ma'am, I'm sorry, but I can't let you in."
Angela squeezed her face as if she ate bitter udala. She was trying to understand what the security man was saying. "What are you talking about? I work here. You see me every day."
The guard shifted uncomfortably. "I know, ma'am. But we received instructions this morning. You're no longer allowed on the premises."
Angella's heart skipped a beat. "What do you mean I'm no longer allowed? This is my workplace. I have a meeting in 30 minutes!"
The guard looked down, avoiding her eyes. "I'm sorry, ma'am. I'm just following orders. You've been... let go."
Angela felt embarrassed. "Let go? That's impossible! I didn't resign. I didn't do anything wrong!"
The guard shrugged helplessly. "I don't know the details, ma'am. All know is that you're no longer an employee here. You'll have to leave."
Angell's mind was spinning like the wheels of a fast-moving train. She couldn't believe what she was hearing. She pulled out her phone and called her assistant, Ada.
"Ada, what's going on?" Angela demanded as soon as Ada picked up.
Ada's voice was shaky. "Ma'am, I was about to call you. HR sent an email this morning. They said... you resigned."
"What?!" Angela shouted. "I didn't resign! This has to be a mistake!"
"I don't know what happened, ma'am," Ada said. "But they've already processed your resignation. They even hired someone to replace you. There was already a consultant ready to help the company tidy up some of the things you were doing before you resigned."
Angela felt like she was in a nightmare. She ended the call and tried to calm herself down. She needed to talk to someone in HR. She marched back to the guard.
"I need to see Mrs. Adebayo," she said firmly. The guard shook his head. "I'm sorry, ma'am. I can't let you in."
Angella's frustration boiled to 100 degrees and her temper became hot. "Do you know who I am? I'm one of the top executives here! You can't just stop me from entering my own workplace!"
The guard stood his ground. "I'm sorry, ma'am. My orders are clear. You're no longer an employee here. Please, don't make this difficult.
Angella felt tears dropping from her eyes. She couldn't believe this was happening. She had given so much to this company. She gave her time, her energy, her life. And now, just like that, it was all over.
Angel felt defeated. She turned around and walked back to her car. She sat in the driver's seat, staring at the steering wheel, trying to process what had just happened. How could she have been fired? She hadn't resigned. She hadn't done anything wrong. It didn't make
sense.
As she drove home, her eyes were filled with hot tears. She felt humiliated, angry, and confused. What was she going to do now? How would she provide for her family? How would she explain this to Mezie and the children?
When she got home, Mezie was in the living room, playing with the children. He looked up as she walked in, his expression calm but serious.
"Angella, you're home early," he said.
Angella didn't respond. She couldn't. She just stood there like a robbot.
Mezie stood up and walked over to her.
"Angella, what's wrong?"
Angela finally found her voice. "I... I don't work there anymore," she said tearfully.
Mezie's heart sank. He knew exactly what had happened, but he didn't say anything.
"What do you mean?" he asked gently.
"They said I resigned," Angela sobbed. "But didn't! I didn't resign, Mezie! I don't know what's going on!"
Mezie wanted to tell her the truth, but he was afraid of how she would react. Instead, he pulled her into a hug.
"It's going to be okay," he said softly. "Everything will be fine."
But Angela wasn't comforted. She pulled away and looked at him, her eyes filled with anger and confusion.
"How is this going to be okay, Mezie? I just lost my job! How are we going to survive? How are we going to take care of the children?
"Angella, I know this is hard. But maybe... maybe this is a blessing in disguise. You've been working so hard, and it's been taking a toll on you and the family. Maybe this is a chance for you to take a break and focus on what really matters."
Angela looked at him with tears in her eyes. She wanted to argue, to scream, to demand answers. But deep down, she knew he was right. Her job had consumed her life, and she had been neglecting the people who mattered most. Still, the shock of losing her job was too much to bear. She collapsed onto the couch, weeping uncontrollably. Mezie sat beside her, holding her hand and letting her cry.
"I thought I had job security, but I'm now jobless. This is unbearable. I'm going to find out how this happened. I did not resign and they are saying I resigned. I will find out who worked against me. The person wants to destroy me, I will also destroy the person."
