BACK TO DALANIE'S POV

----------------%%%----------------

+

"Hey gurl, wazzup?" I greeted Kristen outside the school door on the huge front porch steps.

Instead of replying, she took a huge breath and gripped my arm hard. It felt so bad... like my blood wouldn't flow anymore.

"Kristen! Are you okay?" I started panicking. I was far more concerned for her than for myself. Kris pushed me back and I stumbled and fell down the steps.

Evil laughter came up behind her. "This is it, Dalanie McNeill. Your 'BFF' is my sidekick now!"

Oh no. I could recognise this voice everywhere, even in my dreams! Francesca Andrewes.

"What did you do to her?!" I screamed, earning the attention of the people around us.

Upon hearing this, Kristen ran to me, lifted a hand and slapped my face! Mortified, I held my face where she slapped it. Francesca smirked.

"Bye, Kristen," my voice audibly cracked. Tears rained down my face like never before. My heart was stabbed with an endless amount of daggers. There was a void in my life that could never be replaced. Not even the time when Zachary slept with Francesca hurt as bad.

This isn't real... This isn't happening!

As I got up and ran away, the words in my brain kept repeating and repeating non-stop.

Making a beeline for the restroom, I deftly avoided everyone in my way.

"What's wrong with her?"

"I think her best friend betrayed her."

"Yeah! I saw her best friend slap her and push her down the stairs! I think Francesca was behind all this."

"That must really hurt."

"But it's not our business, is it?"

Oh my gosh!! Even outside the ladies, people were gossiping. And... they didn't help.

Well that's human nature. I mean, I just might not help someone either. 'Cuz I don't know if I'm actually helping them or not.

Anyway, back to reality.

My mad dash into the bathroom stalls was forcefully stopped by someone. I looked up warily.

Isn't this girl... Kora Woods?!

I fists clenched and backed away angrily. My fear and hurt seemed to be numbed after seeing Kora. "You're on Francesca's side, right? Gonna deliver a blow? Well, I'm gonna be strong."

Kora gave a sad look and when she saw that I softened a little, she stepped forward bravely. "Don't worry. I'm not going to hurt you. I genuinely am sick of Francesca's nonsense."

"And how do I believe you?"

Kora ran her fingers through her hair and sighed. "How do I make you believe me?"

"Through your words and actions. You know, you come from an I-have-b*tchy-friends background, so thats definitely not gonna help you gain any ground. Better build it up from scratch," I wagged a finger, trying my best to act tough.

She nodded. "I will make sure you get Kristen and Za-," she paused. "At the very least, I'll make sure I help you get Kristen back."

I sighed. A pathetic tear managed to make it's way out of the corner of my eye. Kora smiled kindly and with understanding (at least, I could sense it) as she offered me a piece of tissue.

"Thank you," I wiped it away and sniffled. It was getting even harder to breathe.

The school bell rang, loud and clear. Without a word, Kora and I ran out of the restroom anxiously.

My books for the first period were, luckily, in my backpack. As Kora and I made a mad dash to the class, I heard a strong, gruff voice and heavy footsteps come up behind us.

Uh oh. Is that who I think it is?

•~•

"So," the man in the leather chair swiveled and turned to look at us. He clasped his hands and put them on his desk with a hard 'thump'. "Care to tell me why you were late for class?"

This man was Mr Durham, our principal. He was so difficult to convince, although very kind.

Kora looked like she wanted to say something, but decided to keep it to herself.

"If one of you aren't going to tell me," he paused for effect. "I shall send you to detention."

Upon hearing this, I started to break down so badly. "No, please! I can't go for detention! I can't afford a black mark! It'll look bad in my report!"

"Then tell me," he said, his gaze softening.

"Dalanie was in the restroom crying for too long because her brother recently went abroad to further his studies. She was really close to him," Kora spoke up, then started to comfort me.

"Oh, dear. I'm sorry to hear that. But still, that is not a very good excuse. We have strict rules here. And you two should know that," Mr Durham explained kindly.

"Please, Mr Durham," I cried again.

He sighed. "Well, okay, here's what we do. You and Kora both get detention for 3 days, but I will not put it in the book. Or, you get detention for a day and I will put it in the book."

"Yes yes!!" I nearly screamed too loud of excitement. "3 days! We'll take 3 days! Please don't put it in the books!!"

"Yeah, we'll do that," Kora agreed.

Mr Durham smiled and said, "Easy decision. Now run along. Here's a slip of absence for the first fifteen minutes of lesson."

"Thank you, Mr Durham," I smiled weakly and left his office with Kora. "This won't happen again."

When we left his office, Kora turned to me and quickly said, "Lunch. Playground."

I nodded without thinking and we ran off to our separate classes.

ALEXANDER'S POV

-------%%%-------

"Hey man, wanna get a drink tonight? I could really use one," Everest from math class tapped me on the shoulder.

"Yeah sure. Time and where?" I replied. I occasionally drink a cup or two with my friends.

"My place, 10pm?" he asked. Everest's uncle was a bartender and he often brought a lot of alcohol for Everest and his parents.

"See you then. I'll be inviting some of my other friends too. You can make friends with them."

I nodded. New friends, huh? But I like who I hang out with. And I don't hang out with everyone. Perhaps I could just drink on my own instead.

•~•

"Guess who's here?" Everest shouted above the noise when he saw me standing in his doorway. The booming music could be heard from at least a radius of 10 houses away.

"Uh, hey?" I greeted meekly. Peering inside, I could see the whole place darkened. The only lights that was available were the disco lights. I stepped closer for a better look of 'his friends'.

"Hehe. My parents aren't home~" Everest hummed.

His breath and clothes reeked really badly of alcohol. How much did he drink?!

"Dude, how high are you!" I leaned forward to support him, for he looked like he could just collapse to the floor any moment.

"No, bro. It's 'High dude, how are you?" Everest laughed as soon as he cracked that joke.

"Not funny, now get in the house," I said, dragging his muscular body in.

Yeah, pretty weird. For someone who gets high often, he's still quite fit. He's got one strong liver.

"Maybe I should get going. This ain't the environment I'd like to be in at a time like this," I rubbed my sweaty palms against my blood-red hoodie.

"You're not going anywhere," an unfamiliar voice came from the living room.

I dropped Everest on the sofa and looked up to see who was speaking.

"Hello, the name's Brock. You're Alexander, I believe? Friend of Everest?" This Brock guy was a tough looking dude. He wore a ripped dark blue jeans and his dark green shirt was stained with some stuff that I don't even want to know.

"That's right."

"Well you're not going anywhere, cutie," he said, winking.

Did he just?

"This is an all-man party," Brock explained. "We're having lots of fun. You're in time for spin the bottle."

Spin the bottle?!

I felt my stomach lurch. This seems so wrong, but something made me feel like playing it. Yet I tried to resist.

"Sorry Brock. I have a girlfriend."

"That, you don't have to worry. We'll bring out the gay in you."

The what?!

"Ayy, you don't have much of a choice," said Brock as he shoved a glass of burning hot alcohol down my throat.

Still a bit woozy from the sudden gulp, I followed him shakily in towards a room where a group of guys were getting ready for spin the bottle.

"You won't regret this," Brock reached down and pushed me by my butt into the circle.

Actually, I already am.

•~•

"Just one more, Alex-ie~" Brock mumbled happily.

"Yeah, one moooore... You're a good kisser..." a guy I didn't know the name of slurred.

My mind was getting all fuzzy and I couldn't think straight.

"Fine, fine," I agreed reluctantly. "Just one morrreeee."

This game of spin the bottle was different. Not only did we have to kiss, we also had to drink a full big cup.

I have to say it was bringing out the possible gay in me. Sounds weird yeah, but that's how it was.

The spinning bottle in front of us slowly came to a stop and the bottle turned to face me. Opposite me was a blonde guy with beautiful blue eyes. He wore a plain orange shirt and black jeans.

I think his name is Lionel. He was really... really... um... what was the word? Ah, yes. Hot.

Sorry, but he really is. I could really devour that piece of hot mess...

Uh, did I just think that?

I'm really getting drunk. Or am I?

Before I could grasp hold of the situation, Lionel leaned forward, grabbed me by the waist and pulled me towards him.

"Woah," I said in slight surprise.

"Enjoy," he winked before pressing his lips against mine. The taste of stale alcohol filled my mouth but the whole kiss thing was so good that I didn't pull back.

When it was over, I subconsciously was reluctant to really end it.

"Alright, that's it for our spin the bottle tonight guys!" Everest clapped his hands and the rest followed suit.

"See you again soon," Brock firmly hit my back, causing me to stumble a little, but Lionel caught me.

"Hey Alex, I think you're a really good kisser, just like Tristan had said," he mumbled and stuffed his hands in his pockets shyly.

"Really?" I felt my cheeks getting rather hot.

"Yeah. And uh, c-could I have your n-number?" Lionel looked away while handing me his phone, already on the keypad screen.

I hesitated for a while, but took it gingerly and hastily pressed the numbers.

"T-thank you, Alex," he grinned.

I nodded, feeling a bit of regret. I might be leading him on. "Bye," I said and walked out the door clumsily.

The nights were getting hot - or was it just me who felt that? It was a long way back. Felt like eternity.

Alone in the dead of the night, I walked home with much effort under the deathly pale moonlight.
