Viktor Larenz has escaped to his beach house on the North Sea island of Parkum. He's avoiding the media circus surrounding the second anniversary of his daughter Josy's disappearance at the age of 13. A woman named Anna Spiegel contacts him and hints that she knows something about Josy's fate. In an exclusive Berlin clinic, psychiatrist Dr. Roth takes up his post as Head of the Psychiatric Department. His reception from staff is somewhat chilly. They would have preferred someone from their own ranks to replace the well-loved but now retired Professor Merkt. Roth doesn't let it bother him.
