FUTA SUG gives update on NELFUND Challenges

The Student Union wishes to inform all FUTARIANS that following the earlier delays, application challenges, and prolonged verification process experienced on the NELFUND platform, these issues have now been resolved and disbursement has officially commenced.

Students are advised to check their NELFUND portal, where the status should now reflect "disbursed" for the institutional loan. This indicates that funds have been successfully remitted to the University.

Consequently, within the next 3-5 days, the approved amount is expected to reflect on students' school portals and NELFUND wallets.

Students can utilize the funds in their NELFUND wallet to:

1. Make payments directly on the school portal, or

2. Initiate withdrawal through the portal

However, students intending to pay for second semester school fees are strongly advised to make payments directly from the portal, rather than initiating withdrawal, as withdrawal processing may take additional time.

Furthermore, upkeep allowances are also set for disbursement. Efforts are currently ongoing to ensure that outstanding payments from January to April are cleared at once, amounting to a total of 80,000.

This is part of measures to compensate for the delay experienced.

Please note the following regarding withdrawals:

1. The first batch of withdrawals typically takes up to 2 weeks to process.

2. Payments are handled in batches (approximately 500 students per batch).

3. Processing continues sequentially until all valid requests are completed.

4. Delays may occur if there are errors associated with a student's account or portal.

Lastly, students are reminded that only amounts actually paid will be subject to refund, as both the University and NELFUND maintain accurate payment records. There is therefore no cause for panic regarding portal figures.
