“Marriage Is Not Always Fair To Women”- Yvonne Jegede Reveals Her Perspective

Nollywood actress Yvonne Jegede has shared her opinion on marriage, describing it as overrated while stating that she is happy for those who find joy in it.

In an interview with Punch, she explained that her view is based on what she has seen around her and her personal experiences. According to her, many women face pressure in marriage and are often expected to shoulder more responsibilities, which she believes creates an imbalance in many cases.

She noted that while some people still have happy and successful marriages, her own observations and environment have shaped her belief that marriage does not always work well for women. She added that this is why her opinion has remained unchanged over time.

The mother of one further said her understanding of marriage is influenced by both her personal experiences and societal observations. She also stressed that she respects people who are happy in their marriages and does not deny their experiences, even though hers differs.

She said: “I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, marriage is overrated. For people who have found happiness in marriage, I’m genuinely happy for them. But from my perspective and within my environment, marriage doesn’t always favour women.”
