“Our Identity is Our Power”- Actor Yul Edochie Calls for Protection of African Traditions

Nollywood actor Yul Edochie has shared a message encouraging Africans to preserve their cultural identity despite external influences.

In a post on his Instagram page, the actor advised that while it is acceptable to adopt certain positive aspects of Western culture, Africans should not lose their traditions, religion, and identity in the process.

“It’s ok to copy a few positive ways from Oyibo culture.

But we must never lose our African identity in the process.

We must never lose our African tradition or African religion.

Our identity is our power.

Be proudly and unapologetically African,” he wrote.

His message has since sparked reactions online, with many social media users engaging in conversations around cultural preservation, globalization, and identity.
