COOU management bans hawking across all campuses
The management of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) has officially prohibited the hawking of goods across its three campuses.
The directive was contained in an internal memorandum dated March 9, 2026, signed by the University Registrar, Chris U. Obi. The decision follows the 211th meeting of the University Management Committee, which was held late last month in the Vice Chancellor’s Conference Room.
Key Highlights of the Directive
Immediate Enforcement: The ban takes effect immediately, impacting all three campuses of the institution.
Designated Trading Zones: All vendors and sellers are instructed to relocate their businesses to the University's authorized business areas. Students and staff are encouraged to patronize these designated spots for their needs.
Strict Penalties: The memorandum warns that any seller caught hawking will be apprehended. Furthermore, their goods will be confiscated and will only be released upon the payment of a specified penalty.
Management’s Position
The University Management emphasized that this move is part of an ongoing effort to regulate commercial activities within the school environment. The Registrar urged the entire university community to comply strictly with the new directive to avoid legal or financial consequences.
The memo was copied to high-ranking officials including the Vice Chancellor, Deputy Vice Chancellors, and the Public Relations Unit for wide dissemination.
