Bandits gun down community watch member in Katsina

Suspected bandits have killed a member of the Katsina Community Watch Corps in an attack along the Kankara axis of the state.

This was made known in a post on X by Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency and security expert in the Lake Chad region.

The source said the incident occurred on March 7 at about 12:20 p.m. when a notorious bandit leader identified as Tsoho and his gang attacked the victim while he was on his way to duty.

According to the source, the victim, identified as Sani Kulle, 35, of Gidan Barmu Village, was reportedly travelling from his community to his duty post at Mararrabar Kankara when he was ambushed by the gunmen riding on motorcycles.

Makama further disclosed that the attackers shot the victim and fled with his rifle.

It said that upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, mobilised a joint police team to the scene.

Makama reiterated that the body of the victim was evacuated to the General Hospital in Malumfashi where a medical doctor confirmed him dead.

Police also recovered the victim’s motorcycle from the scene.

“Efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the perpetrators of the attack,” the source said.
