ATBU SUG notice on improved water supply at Yelwa Campus
The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi, has successfully intervened to address the persistent water shortage affecting students on the Yelwa Campus, especially during the holy month of Ramadan.
In a special bulletin released to students, the SUG leadership, under Comrade Shariff Abdulmalik Toro, detailed the outcome of an emergency meeting held with University Management early Thursday morning.
According to the statement, the SUG President and the Welfare Director met with the Registrar—who represented the Vice-Chancellor—at approximately 7:00 a.m. to assess the root causes of the water failure and propose urgent solutions.
Following the engagement, the following resolutions were reached:
·Increased Diesel Supply: The daily diesel allocation for the generator powering the water pressure pumping system on Yelwa Campus has been increased from 100 litres to 210 litres per day. This will extend pumping operations from about 40 minutes to approximately 2 hours daily, significantly improving water availability.
· Boost at Lushi: Diesel supply at the Lushi facility has been raised from 200 litres to 300 litres per day, enabling up to 4 hours of pumping daily.
· New Booster Pump Approved: Management has directed the immediate procurement of a new booster pressure pump to replace the faulty one identified as a major cause of the supply failure. This is expected to provide a lasting solution to the water challenge.
The SUG reassured students of its commitment to their welfare, urging them to "keep trusting the process, because the process is working."
