“They Rejected Me for Singing in Yoruba”- Asake Recalls Early Career Struggles With Show Promoters

Nigerian singer Asake, born Ahmed Ololade, has opened up about the challenges he faced at the early stage of his music career.

The ‘Sungba’ crooner revealed during an interview with Famous TV that he was rejected by several show promoters because he sang mostly in Yoruba. According to him, many promoters were hesitant to book him for shows at the time, doubting the commercial appeal of his sound.

Despite the setbacks, Asake said he remained consistent and refused to change his style to please others. He credited his resilience, perseverance, and faith in God for his growth and success in the music industry.

The singer expressed gratitude that he did not abandon singing in Yoruba, noting that staying true to his sound eventually paid off.

He said, “How I got to where I am today is by God’s grace, self-belief, consistency, and endurance.

“At some point, a lot of people said no to me; they didn’t allow me to perform at shows because I spoke Yoruba. But thank God I didn’t stop, and I kept believing in myself.

“Now, look at where I am today. I am so happy for myself.”
